December 23rd 1837

I am happy to hear that change is in the air. When I last wrote to you, I was on an island near the Niagara Falls. We had a ship carrying over supplies from Canada, which the British sunk. Later, a few Americans got injured and one even got killed, that was when I had to flee. America got made that we were involving the Americans in “our battle” and almost declared war against the British. I had to get away from that commotion, I am now on the mainland of America, the USA. I hope that the Government is a little scared and will realize that we will not be treated this way. I

I never meant for that to happen, though I knew it was a possibility, considering it was a rebellion, but I am happy I did it. I know many people had to die and be punished in the present, but I believe we started something that will greatly improve the future. We have started something that will help all of Canada in the future. We have freed a whole country! America turned out to be an amazing place, though nothing compared to our Canada and Toronto. There are many people here and many things to see. The USA is also really different from Canada. You can tell they are their own independent country without any influence from anyone else. You can also see the leftover marks of their massive revolution, but it is old and I promise you it is safe. I always thought the American Revolution would be an inspiration for our rebellion if it had succeeded. I always admired that man-George Washington, was it? - How he lead the Americans against the British- a very powerful force which we have experienced- and was successful. I always saw him as determined to reach his goal, which he did. I thought I could be like him, if we had succeeded in our

In contrast to what is learned in the classroom, this literary work provides a unique, unknown perspective on the American Revolution. This is the perspective of a common citizen of the colonies. Before, I only knew that some people got together and threw a bunch of tea into the ocean. I now know that leadership was taken up by common men and they had the greatest impact on the citizens of America. Without these…

Many instances and circumstances and peoples choices went into the correlation of the steps that it took for the colonists to fight for their rights and lives to mean something to have freedom true freedom not just living to fill the pockets of greedy ruler ship. That they themselves could attain what we call the American dream. I believe this is one of the biggest accounts that had to take place was to insight people to want better. Not to settle for less than they deserve. Not to live under the regime of a tyrant but to live under civil liberties that we today get to enjoy and partake in.…

This demonstrates that when given independence, Canada could be trusted to finish the job. A Canadian Captain was in charge of this mission and showed that he could successfully plan and complete the mission. Those Canadian soldiers fighting at the Casa Berardi also had to face very difficult German opposition and they succeeded. This demonstrated that when given independent tasks, they could complete the job. Once the Casa Berardi was cleared, Canadians then had to continue to…

David McCullough wrote a revealing novel about the struggles and challenges America faced during the year of 1776 as the war for American independence commenced. “1776” shed light on the hardships the country faced in order for us to live the life of freedom we do today. The American army was composed of regular everyday people with a lack of military experience, but under the leadership of General George Washington America was victorious. They faced many adversities despite just the British powers. There were many loyalists and traitors that lived right at home pledging their loyalty to the British crown. Thanks to the determination of the American people they didn’t let those opposing forces deter them.…

Rebellion in a Post Rebellion America. When the founding fathers of America drafted the declaration of independence, they did so with the understanding that they were creating a system of government the world had never seen before. They created a nation where the common man, with enough virtue and conviction, has the ability to rise up and take control of their government. The United States was founded on the ideals of revolutionaries, and to this day still holds those ideals in high regard.…

Thomas Paine helped to inspire the American Revolution. In “Common Sense”, published in January 1776, Thomas Paine said that the Colonists should aim for complete independence from Britain. Among the arguments he used were that Britain governed the Americans for its own benefit, not theirs, and that, in any case, the distance between the two nations made governing from England very inefficient. The pamphlet sold in its thousands and was very influential. It helped to turn a local uprising into a War of Independence and Thomas Paine was given the title ‘Father of the American Revolution. Another work of Paine’s that is crucial to the revolution is “The Crisis.” argues American independence, of course, but begins with theoretical thoughts on…

The proposition of Rebellion is a great crime- unless it succeeds” is not entirely true in terms of the American Revolution. In is true that if they succeed it is not a crime and if they fail it is a crime, but describing it as a great crime is not justifiable. If the colonies failed the British would still have to govern the people. They could not throw every man in jail or put troops in every house. The revolution happens in a place where the Mother Country is vastly outnumbered.…

Interestingly, the view that American fought so hard for their independence for the purpose of democracy is not the only view of the revolutionary war. As a matter of fact, there are about eight views of the revolution at current. However, these views boil down into two main categories: proponents of ideas, and proponents of interest. The first one deals with political ideals emphasizing ideological and psychological factors and focusing on the power of ideas to foment revolution. Those who listened to political theorists were suspicious of an attempt to have a tighter foothold on the colonies.…
