Isak Dinesen The Ring Short Story
The Ring by Isak Dinesen is not a modern short story. The first reason that it is not a modern short story is the fact that the author uses a face paced plot rather than subtle characterization. Near the beginning of the story the plot is moving slowly but, approximately half way into the story the plot really picks up and is moving very fast. It covers Lovisa meeting the thief and realizing that she no longer wants to be married to her husband in a span of two pages.

The second reason that this is not a modern short story is the author states facts rather than implying psychological truths. The reader has to draw no conclusions or about the wife, Lovisa’s, feelings. She directly states them. “With this lost ring she had wedded herself into
