When a song is as heavily covered as Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That A Shame” from his album Rock and Rollin with Fats Domino you know that there is something special about it. With recording artists such as Pat Boone, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and even the 1970s rock group, Cheap Trick recording the song many people know at least one version. However the original version has a special something about it that helps it stand out from the many covers. The song has an enticing hook, interesting historical context, and is an earworm that was with me for several days after I first heard the song.…
The music of a nation gives away many facts about the culture of the country, its language, speech qualities and the various aspect of its life. Every culture has its own music and the country of Australia is no exception in this case. This essay is going to focus on two particular Australian songs, which are very different in their basic qualities and also focus on how both of the songs, though contrasting in nature, portray the different aspects of Australian culture. The first song that the essay is going to focus on is ‘The Dreaming’ by Vyanah.…
Mademoiselle Reisz inquired Edna how has she been using her time and is shocked to hear of Edna’s choice of becoming an artist. She warns her that an artist must be brave, possessing “a courageous soul that dares and defies.” Edna assures her that she has persistence if nothing else, and Mademoiselle Reisz laughs, hands over the letter to Edna, and begins to play the Chopin Impromptu that Edna asked to hear. The music deeply affects Edna, and she weeps as the pianist glides between the Impromptu and another piece, “Isolde’s song.” When Edna asks if she may visit again, Mademoiselle Reisz replies that she is welcome at all times.…
Tyranny is like type of torture over states. Living under this word would be like living in hell. What did James Madison do to stop Tyranny. In 1794, the amendments were created and were ratified in 1795. Believe it or not this was something that stopped Franklin Roosevelt from creating tyranny. These 11 through 27 amendments were made in a place called “United States” which many americans live nowadays. But really, how did the bill of rights (amendments) guard us from tyranny?…
In 1979, The Knack performed one of their hit singles “My Sharona” in front of a packed house. This song represented the alternative/pop rock genre, and was considered a major hit in the late 1970s. As a child, I remember hearing the song on the radio and I enjoyed the catchy and memorable tune. Although I did not quite understand the lyrics at the time, my dad listened to it often when he worked in the garage. This essay will first describe a variety of important musical characteristics that are displayed within the performance. Next, it will discuss how this song was a launchpad for a future song that became just as popular a few years later. Lastly, before providing my own personal critique, I will discuss how the song assisted The Knack with getting back together nearly 20…
Senior year is like listening to a broken radio that repeats the same phrase over and over again. As an incoming freshman in college, we are still unable to throw this broken radio out. We've been forced to listen to the phrase "How are you going be successful in college?" I believe that everyone has a different definition of being successful in college. For me, being successful in college is keeping up with my grades and living my life to the fullest.…
I enjoy listening to this song anyways as it is in my native language and one of my top childhood songs. The song is about a couple who is in love with each other but when the guy has to leave for the US, they broke up. He later returns and the love is still there. This is a very cute story and I love singing the lyrics that describes his feelings for her as he was away. If I broke up and get back together with my boyfriend, I would want this to be our scenario, that we broke up and got back together because of distance or circumstances, not because we wanted this. I also love how there are english lyrics sung with deep emotion in the song: “I will be back for you.” The music video for the song is also very heartwarming and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. If I got back together with my ex, I could listen to this song to remind me of my feelings for him. This song is a great song that evokes strong emotions from me and makes me think about love and how strong it is to overcome lots.…

“I don't need love or a man to complete me, and someday, you'll find that true for yourself. Suitors will come and go, but you will remain.” by Amanda Hocking. This quote simply defines that women are strong and independent in life. Many men will come and go in a women’s life, but women will remain themselves in their own way. Women all around the world have inspired so many people.…
Miguel Primentel, a R&B and soul artist, was a breath of fresh air to the R&B game in the 2010-2013 time frame. The Ballad “Candles in the Sun” was a simple, yet powerful song with a very nice message. This song was released on his second studio album Kaleidoscope Dream on September 25, 2012. Candles in the sun didn’t chart because wasn’t a single, but the album was number three on the Billboard 200 (Wikipedia 2016). “I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life” (Miguel 2013) The song was very repetitive but had an amazing message. The song was to make you think and call to attention to the problems of the world. During 2011 and 2012 there were conflicts in the middle east, many countries had political…
“Talking shit about a pretty sunset,” is a song that portrays an overall apathetic outlook on life. The listener can clearly hear the discontent expressed in the words sung and the execution in the music. Thoughts of suicide, phobia of commitment, lack and gain of motivation, fixation and illusions of a better life are all present. Through the complex breaks and climax of the song, tells an emotional story of revelation, realization and self-actualization.…
In The Song of Songs, the Shulamite and her lover are everything but what society conforms to. In their Hebrew society there are rules and restrictions pertaining to sexual relations and who is allowed to marry who. These rules are stated in the book of Deuteronomy, and if the citizens do not abide by the laws written in the book, the punishments were harsh and brutal. However, the Shulamite and her lover seemed to be living in their own world where they could not care less about what society thought of them. In this poem, The Shulamite and her lover break many laws, and in most cases, desire seems to be considered a higher law to them than anything written in Deuteronomy.…
In the year 2005, London ‘s Mayor Ken Livingston signed with the International Olympic Committee agreeing to have his city for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The contract signed is an impressive masterwork of micro-management. When a city or country receives their set of 33 “Technical Manuals”, they find it hard to store while it takes up more than four feet of bookshelf space. Also, to go along with its technical manual, London must comply with the Olympics terms. London must be able to designate 250 miles of dedicated traffic lanes for the select use of athletes along with Olympic families (Gross, 2012). Members of the Olympic Family must also have at their leisure at least 500 air-conditioned limousines with chauffeurs wearing special uniforms and caps. Even more, London must also set aside and pay for 40,000 hotel rooms. These hotel rooms must fit the requirements of 1,800 four and five star rooms for the I.O.C. and its associates for the entirety of the Olympic games. These are just some of the expenses that London has to pay and prepare for well in advance to the games.…
Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…
