The Muslim empire went through great expansion. I think the major key to the Islamic expansion was their military. They conquered lots such as the Greeks. They conquered all who rebelled against them. One way military helped with Islamic expansion is by conquering others around the world and teaching them of the Islamic religion. By conquering others this expanded and increased the Muslim empire and population. According to Document A “The battle they fought at al-Yarmuk was of the fiercest and bloodiest kind. In this battle 24,000 Muslims took part”. This is an example of how military helped Islamic expansion. Another way the military helped Islamic expansion was according to Document C “ Individuals were required to embrace…
Some could say that what contributed to the rapid spread of Islam are their Muslim leader and his god Allah. Socially Muhammad contributed by spreading his visions and new religious beliefs. As he became more known people started to accept his beliefs and visions. Which would later help build an army for the Islamic people to fight for the name of Allah. This also didn’t help either though as he began to gain enemies who weren’t very fond of beliefs. Thus leading him to leaving to go to Medina known as the hijra. Were he ultimately becomes the leader of Medina were the people are more of a receptive audience and this is where his followers becomes very populated. Politically Islam had the upper hand, Byzantine and Persia having been exhausted by the protracted conflicts made them both vulnerable. As Muhammad taken over lands from Byzantine and Persia he began to take in more people, growing his army, society, and religious beliefs.…
Document 2 talks about the Islamic capital of Cordova and how it was once labeled as the “jewel of the world”. Cordova had numerous libraries, bookstores, and public schools. As well as having great educational institutions, the people who lived in the city were very wealthy and had various luxuries that others in the world were not fortunate enough to have. This document shows that the people of Islam benefited greatly from the achievements and advances that their people had made. The fourth document tells of the math advancements that Al-Khwarizmi, a Muslim mathematician, made. This is an early form of what we today would call algebra, it was written in a textbook and was later translated so that other countries could use it. Document 5 is two figures that the Islamic people used is geography and mapmaking. They used the two objects to view the sky and to figure out how to draw their maps and to make calculations for travel. These two figures are evidence of the advancements made by Islam because they help to prove they were able to change and better the tools of other countries to help their people and to help make try and make their culture one of the bests in the world. The ninth document explains the trade network that was established by Muslim merchants throughout the Sahara Desert and into West Africa. This advancement was huge because Islam was already in control of travel, over land and seas, so these routes allowed people to travel back and forth easier with paths that were established and that people were able to follow to move all around the earth. All of these documents present evidence of the achievements made by the Muslim people of Islam. The second section of documents all explain and tell how the achievements came about and how the advancements were made by the…

A common misconception regarding Islam in the United States is that the religion itself is new to the country. This is incorrect due to multiple reasons, including the evidence that Muslims were brought over during the era of slavery from Africa. Additionally there are records of Muslims being present on Christopher Columbus’ ship that was used to “discover” the new world. Another common misconception regarding Islam is that American Muslims are a homogeneous group. In reality American Muslims are the most diverse religious group in the United States. Individuals who recognize themselves as Muslim Americans identify as Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic. Finally, there is a stereotype that women are oppressed in Islam. Muslim women are actually the second most educated religious group of women. Furthermore the economic parody between men and women in Islam is closer than any other religious group.…

Islam and Christianity seem to be very different religions but as you get deeper into the rituals and beliefs the two show strong similarities. Christianity and Islam are the two most popular religions around the world but Christianity is the largest religion in the world with 1.9 billion followers. The two religions are monotheistic and believe in one single God but Islam refers to the same god, as Allah. The two religions are based on different teachings. Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and Islam is based on the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. In Christianity, Jesus Christ the son of God is believed to be sent to earth to save humanity from sins, and in Islam it’s believed that Jesus Christ is not the son of god but a prophet whose message has been corrupted. Muhammad who is the founder of the Islamic religion is believed to be the last prophet of God Allah, and that he had a revelation by the angel Gabriel that he was supposed to teach and spread the religion of Islam. Both religions strongly believe that there will be a final judgment and in rules. For Christianity the rules are called the Ten Commandments and for Islam the rules are called the Five Pillars of Islam. Both religions believe that by following the rules they will be judged and sent to heaven or hell. Christianity and Islam are divided into groups that form the religion. Most Christians are members of one of three major groups: Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Eastern Orthodox. Muslims the followers of Islam are members of either the Sunni or Shi’a groups. Both Religions worship their God or Allah but in different ways. Christians worship God by following his commandments, praying, singing, and reading the bible. Muslims worship Allah by praying five times a day facing toward Mecca, reading the Qur’an and by following the Five Pillars of Islam. For Christianity the day of worship is every Sunday at church and for Islam the day of worship is every day but Fridays…
The Muslims were very good at math. Al-Khwarizmi was a mathematician he studied many Indian resources and wrote an algebraic textbook in the 800’s (Document 4). This book was later translated into Latin and used all around Europe (Document 4). Muslims also developed their place-value system from the Arabic numerals coming from the Indians (Document 4). These facts justify that the Muslims achieved great standards in math. They not only made achievements in math but also art.…
Christianity and Islam are both very different religions, or as many people call them, worldviews. A worldview is a pattern of ideas but also a pattern of beliefs, convictions, and habits that help us make sense of God, the world, and our relationship of God and the world. While a worldview and a religion are very similar, they are also very different. A religion is a system of belief that attempts to define the nature of God and how human beings can understand and interact with the divine, any system of belief that prescribes certain responses to the existence (or nonexistence) of the divine. While a christian worships in a church or chapel, a muslim worships in a mosque. Christians read their holy book called the bible while muslims read their holy book called the Qur’an. There are many differences between the two of them, but there are also many similarities between them.…
Have you ever noticed that all the books on science and technology somehow only seem to be filled with discoveries and inventions from the likes of Aristotle, Archimedes, Da Vinci and Thomas Edison... but what about the Muslims? Where are all our discoveries?…
Ever since the advent of Islam in 7th Century, the Muslim civilization rapidly rose to the forefront of human achievement. Remarkable progress was made not only in the fields of sciences and philosophy – i.e. mathematics, astrology, astronomy, optics, cartography, medicine, anthropology, logic and literature – but they also became the dominant military and economic power of the world by the 13th Century. These accomplishments were made possible by a number of underlying factors prevailing at that time in Muslim history. The significant ones being the territorial and commercial expansion of Muslim influence to a vast area where a treasure trove of Greek, Persian and Roman works in science, medicine and philosophy was made available to their intellectuals to build upon; Patronage and encouragement was given to Muslim scholars by the ruling elite of that time, several universities were built in the Muslim lands and a spirit of freedom for inquisitive research across the religious divide was created and encouraged. But then, owing to a raging and endless conflict between the forces of logic and reason and those of rigid religious fundamentalism, Muslim Science lost its appeal and eventually disappeared into near oblivion. Resultantly, the culture of patronage of those seeking knowledge and the pursuit of excellence in the fields of sciences and the arts also died.…
Muslim culture has many different cultural groups. Each culture has different traditions and customs. There are Asian, African, European, and American Muslims. There are over 2 billion Muslims all over the world. A Muslim should not be judged by what they believe in, if it’s different from other’s beliefs. People are created in the sight of Allah. They should also not be judged by what they choose to be or wear. Muslims are required to pray five times a day. Some even keep prayer mats in their cars to take out and pray on. Muslim women are treated with respect. They have equal rights and have full respect and honor. A marriage can’t be taken place if the woman does not agree. She must agree in order to get married. When they get married, the…
