Islam Is It like Other Religions?

Out of the 6.974 billion people that live in the work about 2.1 billion practice Christianity, 1.5 billion practice Islam and lastly 14 million practice Judaism. Islam is an Abrahamic religion that is articulated by the Qur’an a book consider by its followers to be the word of God. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith. About 18% live in the Arab world; the world 's largest Muslim community is in Indonesia; substantial parts of Asia and most of Africa are Muslim, while significant minorities are to be found in the Soviet Union, China, North and South America, and Europe (Islamic Bulletin 2009). This paper will discuss what the Islamic is, the history behind the Islamic Faith and how it compares and contrasts to Christianity and Judaism. According to The Islamic Bulletin the meaning of Islam is an Arabic word that simply means 'submission ', and derives from a word meaning 'peace ' (Islamic Bulletin, 2009). In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God. 'Mohammedanism ' is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather than God. 'Allah ' is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike. Muslims believe in one unique incomparable God; in the angels created by him; in the prophets through whom his revelations were brought to mankind. In the Day of Judgment an individual is accountable for his or her actions; in God 's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias,

The words Islam and Muslim are closely related to the word “peace.” The words of Islam and Muslim propose the inner tranquility that is achieved with the surrendering to the divine. Islam teaches that all religions originally had the same essential message - which was to submit whole-heartedly to the will of God and to worship Him and Him alone. For this reason, Islam is not a new religion but is the same divinely revealed Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The word "Islam" means peace and submission. Peace means to be at peace with you and your surroundings and submission means submission to the will of God. In order to make an argument contrary to the beliefs of many Americans, Karen Armstrong uses her biography Muhammad to portray Islam as a religion that was created simply to seek social change in a problematic time period. One central theme of the book is that at the time when Islam was created, it was helpful, almost necessary to the people of 7th century Arabia, as their lives were undergoing a period of rapid change. In fact, one could even take away from Muhammad that the message of Islam could be appropriate in today’s society as well. In the early centuries of the Common Era, Trade was revolutionized in the Middle east.…

The Middle East is very religiously diverse. The three major religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all Abrahamic religions, and each originated within the Middle East.[1] Islam in its many forms is by far the most heavily represented religion in the region though many branches and sects diversify and segment it. In addition to the widely acknowledged religions, smaller minority religions such as Bahá'í, Druze, Yazidi, Mandean, Gnosticism, Yarsanism, Shabakism and Zoroastrianism are also prevalent throughout the Middle East.…

Islam's religion is to completely accept the guidance and teachings of God. The Arabic word Islam means peace, purity, acceptance and commitment. In Islam, Muslims would pray to Allah and Shahadah. Allah is not only god, but “The God” and Shahadah means that “ultimately there is only one Absolute Reality; the underlying essence of life is eternal unity rather than the separateness of the things in the physical world.” There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God.…

    My View on Islam

Before taking this class and receiving pertinent information regarding the Nation of Islam, I was not aware of the religions beliefs or the way they praised. There are not many similarities in this religion and my religion which is Christian. The Nation of Islam, however, does believe in God, they believe that Elijah Muhammad is a prophet of God. However, the differences lie much deeper than that. With all the research that has been done on this religion, I have come to discover that Islam and the Nation of Islam are two different religions. Islam is a religion that is accepting to all races and participates in the worship of one unseen God who, Orthodox Muslims believe never took human form. The Nation of Islam, on the other hand, is more of a movement geared towards the African American race and teaches that God appeared in the form of Fard Muhammad. Muslims have to pray five times a day facing the Kaaba [a black stone building in Mecca that is shaped like a cube and that is the most sacred Muslim pilgrim shrine.] in Mecca, Arabia. Muslims believe that the Kaaba was the first house of worship ever placed on the face of the Earth dedicated to the worship of one God. They do not worship the Kaaba; nonetheless, it serves as a central focal point for Muslims around the world, unifying them in worship and symbolizing their common belief, spiritual focus and direction. Interestingly enough, the Kaaba’s interior is empty. This aspect of their worship was intriguing and I knew at that moment that I would have to include this question within my interview process.…

    Religion of Islam

The first thing that one should know and clearly understand about Islam is what the word "Islam" itself means. The religion of Islam is not named after a person as in the case of Christianity which was named after Jesus Christ, Buddhism after Gotama Buddha, Confucianism after Confucius, and Marxism after Karl Marx. Nor was it named after a tribe like Judaism after the tribe of Judah and Hinduism after the Hindus. Islam is the true religion of "Allah" and as such, its name represents the central principle of Allah's "God's" religion; the total submission to the will of Allah "God". The Arabic word "Islam" means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true god worthy of worship "Allah" and anyone who does so is termed a "Muslim", The word also implies "peace" which is the natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah. Hence, it was not a new religion brought by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) I in Arabia in the seventh century, but only the true religion of Allah re-expressed in its final form.…

Brief HistoryIslam originated in Arabia in the early 7th century and it derived from the Arabic word "Asalam," which means, "to accept, surrender or submit. Thus, Islam means acceptance of and submission to God "Allah". Believers of this faith called Muslims must demonstrate this by worshiping him, following his commands, and avoiding worshiping other gods. "(Wikipedia) "Islam is the second largest religion in the world with over 1 billion followers" (Religion and Ethics). In 2001, there are records shown that 1,591,000 Muslims are in the UK, around 2.7% of the population. Islam is the youngest of the world 's very large religions; those with over 300 million members include Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. I want to start off with a short summary of what I have learned. Islam is the proper name of a religion; it is not pronounced, Izlam, with a “z”sound. The first syllable is pronounced like the end of the word, “bliss.” The Arabic word “Islam” means submission in peace, and in practice it is understood to mean submission in peace to the will of God Almighty. It is also understood to mean total peace that comes from surrender to the will of God Almighty (Allah). The people who profess the faith of Islam are called “Muslims,” not “Islamics.” The word “Muslim” is not synonymous with the word “Arab.” Islam originated in Arabia and many of the Arabic speaking people (Arabs) are Muslims, however most of the Muslims in the world are not Arabs. Islam is not a racial or ethnic term. There are Asian, European, African, American and Middle Eastern Muslims, just like there are American,…
