Isolation: The Connection Between Singer And Antonopoulos
Throughout the story we see that Singer really doesn't have many friends. Or for that matter any friends at all besides Antonopoulos. Almost every situation we see him in, he has trouble communicating with others besides Antonopoulos. I think that Singer has a lot of build up feelings that he doesn't really show. Either because he can’t due to being deaf and mute, or because he’s not good at opening up. I believe that both are the causes. Even when he had Antonopoulos, he couldn’t really talk or rather communicate with him because of the person that Antonopoulos is. The problems that he faces he keeps to himself and has really no outlet. His problems just build and destroy him inside even if on the outside, to the rest of the word he seems fine. …show more content…
But for Singer specifically it is clear. When Antonopoulos passes he has an opportunity to make friends and connect with the others. I think that because he does not really open up with others. All throughout the story he had many different chances to befriend them or have some sort of loser connection with them. I believe that Singer did try though but because of him being deaf and mute it's hard for him to truly connect with others. After time and time again, if I tried to connect with others and was unable to I would feel extremely isolated as well. I think That Singer always felt extremely disconnected to the rest of the world. With Antonopoulos around I fell that he felt like he was apart of something. He had a real true connection with him. We don’t get a lot of information about his past but Antonopoulos be his first and only real connection with someone else like

In Kathleen M. Higgins work The Music of Our Lives she discusses her theory on how music positively benefits us, not only as a culture, but an individuals. She opens her writing by elaborating two very profound quotes on the importance of music, one by Plato and the other Confucius. Both quotes, alone with Higgins words, come to the conclusion that music is a central tool in promoting harmony in the soul and connecting our cross cultural society. Kathleen M. Higgins than goes on to compare the views of Allan Bloom. Despite devoting a chapter in his book Closing of the American Mind to maliciously attacking rock music, he keeps in mind that music still serves a ethical function. Bloom expresses how deeply music sears deep into the souls of…

The book I read was Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, a book explaining the exciting story of a nineteen year old boy named Chris McCandless. Chris was born into a wealthy family with siblings; Chris later attended Emory where he would already start to isolate himself from others. Isolating himself from others would eventually cause Chris to make a journey he would later regret and not return from. This will show how humans are not meant for isolation and it will not lead into anything helpful and won’t turn out in your favor.…

Advocating for animal welfare, Singer coins the term "specism" to describe discriminatory practices, which people express in their relations to the non-humans animals. Singer builds his case for promoting equality among all living species by offering an analogy between the "oppression" of animal rights and the historical accounts of the fight for justice and equal rights for women and people of color. He refers to the utilitarian principles expressed by Sidgwick, which holds that "the good of any one individual is of no more importance than the good of any other." Analyzing the complexity of perceived hierarchy in the human relations, Singer arrives at the conclusion that equality does not depend on intelligence, moral capacity, or…
