This report analyse a management issue about ‘Apple’ company managing in keep their product fresh. Apple produced some most great and popular products in the world like ‘iphone’ ‘I pad’ and also invest more in technology development to update new function and applications. By evaluates the risk for investment of technological items, people may consider that is it worthy to invest?
Apple stays fresh by employee right people and developing their ides and also themself, pushing ahead their technology and apply new function on their products. (WILEY, 2011) It is successful in updating their products and adapting to user needs. But there was no obvious effect on overall sales from technology investment. According to the company 's annual report, Apple R&D invested $3.4 billion, spending up nearly 40 percent in 2012. The year prior, the company spent $2.4 billion, up $647 million the year from before. (Lowenhosn, 2012) While the cost went up, the amount Apple spends on R&D versus its overall sales remained tiny. As in 2011, Apple 's tally for 2012 remained at 2 per cent. There was no obvious effect on overall sales from technology investment. Various studies suggest that between 50 and 80 percent of new products fail—the greater the rate of new product development, the higher the failure rate. (Reference For Business, n.d.)
It is not worthy to invest large amounts of money to develop very advanced technology for Apple’s profit. Keep fresh and high technology can make products competitive and popular. But it will become harder and harder to develop technology and new function and also cost more and more money. Apple’s managers should consider negative investment in keep their product fresh.
