that the people in this world do not want the women to learn and be as smart as men. This can be inferred because Aldous Huxley describes women as objects that are only used for sex objects. Furthermore, women can only work as a nurse, and males are superior at work and have high ranking jobs. Today women are still being treated less than men. Women can be paid less money than men even if they have the same role in the same job. ¨For every dollar earned by a man working full time, women working full time earns about 79 cents¨(Sustain, 1). So today women have more rights than they did 85 years ago, but they still aren’t treated completely equal to men (Faller 1). Another topic that Aldous Huxley described was conditioning.
At birth people working at the hatchery could give babies certain traits and qualities. They did this through hypnopaedia which is sleep teaching. So today children are conditioned to like certain things. This can happen today even if it is not realized. Children are conditioned to like certain things based on what their parents like or dislike. Moreover, if a parent believes in their child then they are more likely to achieve a certain goal. "Parents who saw college in their child's future seemed to manage their child toward that goal irrespective of their income and other assets."(Halfon 2) This can cause children to be more like their parents and not who they want to be. This is how conditioning affects our society today. One more topic that Aldous Huxley talked about was soma. Even though he didn’t explain what soma was he gave us hints throughout the story about what it is. From what Aldous Huxley said, it is inferred that soma is a drug that babies were conditioned to like. People took soma whenever they felt sad or depressed. In today’s world soma can be related to drugs. Today when people are going through a depressing stage they use drugs to get over it. “About 570,000 people die annually in the U.S. due to drug use.”(Drug Abuse

Aldous Huxley wrote about many topics that still face this world today even if it is unnoticed. Some examples of these topics include the role of women in society, conditioning, and soma. These topics Aldous talked about were in his time period and they still affect us today. So in a way the world today is similar to the world 85 years ago.
