INTRODUCTION TO IT INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT
Infrastructure – refers to the basic support system that is shared among other users.
IT Infrastructure – is the basic set of components which are shared by all IT Business applications.
IT Infrastructure – on an organization comprises of equipment, software, hardware, or any other components which are needed to deliver IT services to its customers. It also provides a base on top of which program or project-specific systems and capabilities of an organization are created. IT infrastructure can be divided into several categories such as:
Purchased Software (ERP packages, RDBMS, Oss, E-mail tools, office tools, financial applications, etc.)
IT infrastructure hardware (machines, desktops, servers, switches, communication devices, etc.)
Software development
Software maintenance (corrective, perfective, adaptive, block changes)
IT Services (software startup, help desk, computer administration, etc.)
Human resource (working staff)
IT Infrastructure Management – refers to the management of essential components of an organization which are necessary for providing services that offers to its customers. Typically, these components include, manpower, processes, data, applications, and organizational policies.
IT Infrastructure management aims to manage these components for effective utilization in order to provide better services to customers. IT infrastructure needs to be developed and managed in an active manner to support the requirements of an organization. This is usually done by IT Department of an organization in consultation with the top management. A good and reliable IT infrastructure is the key to successful operations and is the foundation of any viable IT organization. IT infrastructure management creates an infrastructure management environment that reduces IT complicacies. It automates and supports required performance and service availability levels and resolves problems to ensure the business
