“The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race,” addressed Chief Justice John Roberts. Affirmative action does exactly the opposite. Affirmative action is “A government policy for federal contractors and subcontractors, which must be taken by covered employers to recruit and advance qualified minorities” (dol.gov). This course of action may have been constructive in the sixties, but the United States of America, the world’s mixing pot, has matured a lot since then.
We have a black president! That blows almost each and every one of the reasons that affirmative action was established initially out of the water. One of the justifications was that “ Diversity is desirable and won’t always occur if left to chance” (balancedpolitics.org). Stop, just stop right there. Obama’s whole presidency was left to chance by the votes of Americans and he won, twice. Just by knowing that you can see that America has grown up and for the most part Americans aren’t discriminating, stereotyping, racists’. I also see people of all colors getting jobs everywhere and work places being very diverse, so affirmative action has accomplished what it set out to do. Now all its doing is discriminating against the majority. Another reason was ‘Students starting at a disadvantage need a boost” (balancedpolitics.org). No, that is what scholarships are for not affirmative action. Students so as to begin at a disadvantage may perhaps need to work harder to keep up among the competition, not merely have affirmative action declare that since you are a minority you can’t be successful on your own, so they will make it easier.
Imagine that an individual interviews for a job and is more qualified than any of the other candidates. Should they get the job? Now envision that the work place is predominantly white males, the more qualified individual is also a white male and a slightly less qualified black woman
