POLICY: Professional RN students administer IV fluids (CSR and Pharmacy prepared) and partial fills. RN students may administer saline or heplock flushes after checking the solution/medication with the clinical instructor/preceptor. RN students may perform the following at the discretion of clinical instructor or preceptor: 1. Calculate rates 2. Monitor sites 3. Administer secondary fluids – (see exceptions below) 4. Monitor PCA pumps 5. Regulate IV fluid rates 6. Monitor volumetric pumps
RN students may perform the following at the discretion of the clinical instructor or preceptor: 1. Administer with direct observation by the clinical instructor or preceptor: a. antibiotics b. anticonvulsants c. diuretics d. anti-coagulants
