The term intravenous therapy begins with the understanding of each word, intravenous simply means "within a vein", and therapy is known as a treatment intended to relieve symptoms; therefore, intravenous therapy may be used to deliver medication directly into the bloodstream. The article, “Intravenous Therapy; IV Statistics,” states, “Of all hospitalized patients, 85% have some type of IV therapy” (par. 1). When one speaks statistically of intravenous therapy, it shows that is commonly used in more than half of the patients that are admitted into any hospital, showing the importance of this therapy in patient’s life.
