Ivan The Terrible Characteristics
A great leader worthy of being remembered in history has done no more than three things. To indulge a bit more, there are three defining factors of a great leader: improvements, additions, and achievements. Ivan the Terrible fit the bill for all three requirements by reforming a multitude of Russia’s fundamental systems, establishing new offices of power, and paving the road for new opportunities. Throughout history and even up to this day, Ivan the Terrible was regarded as a “terrible” leader, however that’s not the case. If you take a step back and analyze his accomplishments as a ruler, you can witness the great things that he’s done. One of the major improvements was with the law enforcement and the justice system. Discrimination was common amongst judges and as a result Ivan placed representatives that were elected by local populations on the political benches to enforce the laws equally. With that in effect, Ivan established the Bureau of Criminal Affairs, the Land Office, and the Office of Military Affairs. With the order established, the next step lead to expansion. Ivan the Terrible successfully conquered several independent provinces such as Artar Khanates of Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberia. All this new territory furthered Russia’s resources and reign down the Caspian Sea. With the border of Russia expanded, additional trade routes opened up as well as a harbor which started shipping, as a result the economy improved considerably. As I stated in the beginning a great leader is defined with three vital factors. Now that we’ve changed perspectives to move into the light of things, we can all appreciate what he’s come to have done.
