Jackie Robinson's Nine Values
whether it’s small or a big, everybody has a barrier. A fence or other obstacle that prevents movement or access to your long or short term goal. One barrier or multiple barriers. Me personally have multiple the biggest one all started on a summer day when I was riding my bike and I slipped on a patch of sand and the handle bar went inside my stomach and my intestines were hanging out. Now join me in this story on how I dealt with this tragedy. One of Jackie Robinson's nine values is Courage. I had to have courage to not be afraid of the things I use to be able to do. I was scared to play basketball because I always thought the ball would hit me in my stomach whenever somebody threw a pass I had to get over it if I ever wanted to play ball again. I had to get over the fear of soccer because people severely hurt themselves on the field so I had to have courage that I wouldn't get hurt. Also I never rode my bike for a whole two to three months because I was scared of the situation and it happening again. The doctor had told me that this was very severe and if it were to happen again it could be even worse than now. Next is that I had to have courage in myself that I would soon get back to normal and do things as well or better than I use to. Furthermore, I was afraid of playing football because I would always think …show more content…
Even though I was afraid of doing these activities I was still determined to get back to my normal self. Like with basketball my friends would bring out the court and play on it but once they were gone I had practice my shots so my arms wouldn't get weak. Also, is even when I couldn't shoot I would sit down and just dribble the ball. Second, is when I had football practice I couldn't go because of the injury that accrued with my stomach but I would still watch to make sure I didn't miss any plays. Lastly, that is how determination is involved with this

Nearly a year after Jackie had first broke the segregation barrier many other teams were catching on. Rickey signed Roy Campanella, a star from the Negro Leagues. By this time almost every team had at least one black player on it. At this time most fans had come to judge a player by its ability not the color the color of their skin. (Shorto, Russell p. 22-24). Jackie was still fighting on and continued to still be a great player but now he was able to voice his opinion and act just like every other baseball player should without having such severe…

Jackie Robinson, a man that defied all odds, and broke the color barrier in major league baseball forever. It's not difficult to state an opinion, but to state a strong opinion, you would need sources to back it up. The author chooses to include, "Jackie Robinson's New Honor," because the year of its publication, was the year that the movement took place. The author basically restated what the New York Times article said in 1950, only this time, the article is now serving as a evidence for Robinson's accomplishments. The author had also included a little bit of history in his article, which is why he included the source, "A Documentary of the Game of Baseball." Early had no filter, and clearly stated that in the 1950's the game of baseball…

I think that Jackie Robinson has a character trait of being brave. I chose the character trait brave because Jackie helped to get blacks in the baseball league, even though he knew he would get taunted, and provoked while trying to do it. One way how Jackie showed the character trait of brave, is by his dialogue. On page 818, the text states, “I think I can play the game, Mr. Rickey.” This text shows being brave because Jackie knew what people might do to him if he played, but he wanted people to have equal rights too. Mr. Rickey needed someone who could take the pressure, and heat, and not get all worked up about what other people thought. Another piece of text evidence that shows how Jackie was brave, is by his thoughts. On page 818, the…

One of Jackie Robinson?s greatest values was his perseverance. I have had to show perseverance all throughout my life. I really had to show perseverance when I moved in between third and fourth grade. I lived in Bentonville, Arkansas and I thought I would spend my whole life in the same place and not have to worry about anything. My parents were talking about moving to central Arkansas, but I didn?t think anything about it. One day, my dad got home from…

I was never an athlete, nor the outdoors man, I was the basement dweller that hated natural light and moaned every time I had gym class. But sometime inside me said, “Maybe you are, you just don’t give it a chance, you’ve rejected physical activities because you had a bad experience” I thought what could possibly go wrong to try. Trying something new never hurt nobody, maybe not permanently. I wanted to embody the outgoing and athletic kid that everyone loved at school, perchance that could be me…

I remember when me and a friend went and broke our barriers to help the community. I think the closest trait I have to Jackie Robinson is teamwork because during the time me and my friend worked together to help the community and we both did a great job. I believe that we both did a boatload of help towards our community and that we wished more people would try to do this.. If we could do this everyday, I think our area would be one of the cleanest in West Bloomfield, but that would just be too difficult. This is my story about the first time me and my friend used one of Jackie Robinson’s traits and helped picked litter around our block and more.…

I face many barriers one barrier that I face is letting my family make decisions for me. I let my family influence my thinking. Sometimes, I ask for their opinions about things and I let them tell me what they think I need to do about it and I do what they say instead of doing what I want to do. I just do not want to let my family down, but I know that I need to overcome this. Sometimes family needs to be involved in decision making, but now that I have my own family I need to stop asking for what I think they would want and I need to make my own choices.…
