Gasland is a documentary written, produced and directed by founder and artistic director of international WOW Company, Josh Fox. The film won six awards including Special Jury Prize in 2010 Sundace Film Festival and was also nominated for an Academy Awards for best documentary in 2011. The film shows effects of natural gas drilling on water sources and the environment. Quentin Crisp writes about his life struggles and successes as a flamboyant, unabashed gay man in 20th century London; his autobiography including retellings of his failures, opinions on sexuality and experiences with various people in his life. Throughout his narrative, the reader gets a glimpse into the heteronormative society that circulates misinformation and condemnation of queer individuals and heavily impacts Crisp’s view on homosexuals. At times, it is evident that Crisp consciously opposes society’s condemnation by choosing daily to be himself, but he cannot help his thoughts from being tainted by the surrounding oppressive heteronormativity. With time, I built a strong bond with Jimmy boy. Slowly, Jimmy boy began to realize that there is a world away from his which was quite different; quite the ‘other’ from the one he was so used to. A world that didn’t live in Wall Street executive boardrooms, but rather on the streets of hell; a world that was quite not his American suburban dream, but that lived in cardboard boxes near shopping plazas. Jimmy boy began to explore the depravity of this world and shredded his all American image to embrace the bleeding world of poverty, hunger and marginalization.
