Jakkals 13 Sniper Description
Jakkals 13
A determined sniper must figure out the new target after his boss makes a mistake, ordering him to kill the wrong man in the hilarious comedy Jakkals 13.
Jakkals 13’s seamless comedic turn from the ominous scene that befalls us after the sniper, (Adrian Collins) serious phone call received by his terrifying boss, then by his oblivious roommate. Because of the seriousness of the situation, I was almost too embarrassed to laugh at spiral of mishaps. Not because it wasn’t funny, but because I felt it inappropriate. Which, is what makes Jakkals 13 special. Writer and Director, Ari Kruger, takes us into to the life of a sniper, if he was one of us. The, all too, familiar elements ring true in Jackkals 13 making it the 2017 winner of the ONE-REELER short film competition.

The awesome, suspense-filled music tells us that danger is in the midst. Anticipation grows as the camera closes in on the sniper, who’s ready for his target and we’re ready, too. Nothing can go wrong, until his phone vibrates. His boss, a guy I wouldn’t like to meet in a dark alley, reminds the sniper of his duties.
Kruger’s comedic timing is perfect; just as we’re ready to see the sniper, get the job done, the phone vibrates again. His mouthy roommate complains about a slice of missing cheesecake. Throughout this scene the audience rarely sees a direct clear shot of the driver. Often in this scene he is shown reflected in a mirror or a window. This creates the effect of mystery surrounding the Driver. He parks the car on the side of the road next to a building and an eye-line match from the drivers point-of-view follows two men wearing ski masks as they break into the building. The Driver tunes in to the police radio signal while simultaneously turning up the radio volume to listen to a sports game. A police officer is heard reporting shots fired at the location over the radio. The first robber makes it out and jumps into the backseat of the car. Panic and suspense ensue as they wait for the second robber to make it back. A police officer reports that he is 2 minutes away from the location. The camera zooms in on the Driver’s face, he appears passive and unfazed. Throughout the film the Driver has an air of passiveness and almost melancholy. This is illustrated especially in this scene as the Driver doesn't panic even in a high stress situation. An eye-line match shot shows the Driver looking at the door for the second robber. He still isn’t there causing the suspense to climb for viewers. The second robber is seen fleeing the scene and…

This can be viewed as an unusual aspect within his composing career as both films share the dramatic genre, yet the music is distinctly different. It has been suggested, that the frequent use of vibraphones and guitars creates an uneasy and bizarre atmosphere, which is in result is relevant to the unique narrative behind the film and the issues confronted. The first track ‘Dead Already’ has a driving minimalist percussion, which is appropriate in terms of translating the narrative. The repetitive beat is representative of the main character, Lester Burnham’s monotonous life. However, the uniqueness of the beat combined with the guitar, foreshadows the series of unusual events, which follow, and as Lester Burnham says at the beginning of the film he is in fact ‘Dead Already’ and is looking in retrospective.…

The Sniper explores the engagement between ‘a sniper’ from the Republican Army and ‘enemy sniper’ of the British security forces during the Irish War of Independence. In the end the sniper kills the ‘enemy sniper’ only to discover upon inspection of the corpse that it his brother. The story ends at this cliffhanger and the impact of this discovery is primarily on the reader. For the majority of the story, the reader is lead to believe that the enemy is foreign and is all out against the reader and friendly sniper. The enemy sniper even gravely hurts the readers and a sense of empathy is created through the use of vivid language but also disdain for the enemy sniper. However, after the revelation at the end, the reader is left speechless and penitent of their harboured hostile emotions. In this sense the reader has been exposed to the notion of the ambiguity between enemy and ally during times of war. In this sense The Sniper shows how an discovery can broaden narrow minded views on the difference between ally and enemy during times of…

Because the film is essentially stagnant, the majority of it taking place in someone’s office, the script relies on powerful performances and political seeds to keep the audience engaged. The first conversation takes place between Republican Senator Jasper Irving and veteran TV reporter Janine Roth. Irving invites the skeptical Roth to his office for a one-on-one interview to discuss a new stratagem in Afghanistan that he is positive will win the war on terror. Irving insists the maneuver, which entails sending small teams of soldiers out as bait, along with the military’s superior “intelligence” will reduce risk and increase reward, but the intelligence isn’t so accurate when the first copter team sent is shot down by a supposedly inactive machine gun. The fray renders the copter useless and strands two idealistic young soldiers, Arian Finch and Ernest Rodriguez. Irving and Roth have a realistic back and forth that probes deep into the flaws of the government and media without slandering either side.…
