This means that her mom wants her to be a very polite women and walk like how she should. Her mother is preparing her for the real world so that's she won’t be wanting boys and walking sloppy, but being polite and looking good, for a first impression. Just like the poem “If”, and in stanza 1 the text says,” If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too.” This means that the father is telling the young boy to trust himself, even though men are doubting him, but take thought in their doubting to. This is helping the son for the real world because he need to believe in himself to do great things, but listen to the other people as well. The poems topics are similar because the know-it-all parents are telling the kids how to act in the world in front of them and do there best.
The two poems that Jamaica and Rudyard wrote both have a similar theme. The theme is If you listen to your parents, you will be a good adult. “Girl” states, “This is how you smile at someone you don’t like at all.” This is teaching her daughter how to be polite, even around people she doesn't like. If she listens to to her mom, she will be a very pleasant adult, just like the poem “If”. In this poem the father says to the son, “If you can talk with crowds and lead your virtue, or walk with the kings--nor lose the common touch.” This statement meant that if he take the right path and make the right choices, he will be liked and loved, in the real world. All this text evidence is comparing to the theme because it it showing the parents telling their kids the right path to take and how to act.
Comparing the two poems, I noticed a difference, the perspective. The mother in “Girl” is very strict about her daughter's future. In the poem the mother strickly tells her daughter, “You are not a boy..” and, “Walk like a young lady, you are not a ‘boy crazy girl’.” This means that the mother care very much about her daughter but she doesn’t want her to act like a boy, therefore, she is being very strict about it telling her how to act. In contrast, the dad in “If” is telling his son,” If you can dream, and not make your dreams your master.” This dad is telling his son that he can dream and follow his dreams, but don’t make them change/control you in a bad way. Therefore, the dad is very nice and giving good strong advice.
