Biography
James Dyson was born on May 2 1947 in Cromer, Norfolk, England and attended the Gresham’s School in Holt, Norfolk during 1956 to 1965. Later on after he graduated from the school he attended the Byam Shaw School of Art for a year. Soon afterwards he enrolled in the Royal College of Art in London from 1966-1970 to study furniture and interior design courses that served as the starting foundation of his career as a designer. He later went on to study engineering.
In 1997 he was awarded the Prince Phillip Designers Prize and in 2000 he received the Lord Lloyd of Kilgerran Award. James Dyson is a distinguished British industrial designer renown for his invention of the Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner, which works on the principle of cyclonic separation. In 2002 Dyson established the James Dyson Foundation to support design and engineering education among young people later on elected as a Fellow at The Royal Academy of Engineering. He had the honour of being appointed as a Knight Bachelor in the 2007 New Year Honours and remained the provost of the Royal College of Art since 2011.
One of his original works was the ‘G-Force’ cleaner in 1983 but was disappointed at the lack of interest of manufacturers or distributors in his design, instead promoting his product in Japan. The product attracted more attention and gained more sales selling for 2000 yen and won the International Design Fair in Japan.
