“Misbehaving kids are encouraged to sit in the room And go through practices like breathing or meditation, helping them calm down And re-center. Author James Gaines wrote from ¨This School Replaced Detention With Meditation. The Results Are Stunning.¨ First of all, With exercises And having to rethink their thoughts, students would then learn And know that what they were doing was wrong And that instead of having a subsequent punishment, they will do better in school And most likely wouldn't do the wrong thing …show more content…
And then would be more successful. So whenever a situation occurs And involves fighting, the child would tell a adult or use their words or meditate to get the situation of their mind. They will then get good grades And they will be on the average they are supposed to be on with the help of their teachers, counselors, administrator, staff, friends And their peers.
"As a little kid, that's got to be hard to sit down And meditate when you know you're about to get a bag of gifts, And they did it! It was beautiful, we were all smiling at each other watching them," said Phillips. Next, When kids know they are getting something it can start to make them uneasy because they want to be in a hurry to get their gift. That can cause them to be anxious And get into bigger trouble than they are all ready in, especially if they are in detention And have to sit through it. But when they know that eventually they will get it after doing a exercise And already having to deal with sitting through something, they will learn that after awhile they will be able to look And see what they get And it will teach them to have patience And wait. This will cause the effect that whenever they want something really much at home or at school, to be patient And wait a little bit longer. The children's parents would then be really happy with the positive behavior change influence. “The kids may even be bringing that mindfulness back home with them.
We've had parents tell us, 'I came home the other day stressed out, And my daughter said, "Hey, Mom, you need to sit down. I need to teach you how to breathe." Then, If students still had to go to detention it would make the parents day a lot worse than it already was because they would have to sit And talk to their child about their choice decision And think of punishments at home And probably school And the child's because they already had to sit through detention a whole lot longer than they wanted. Without detention, kids would come home from a couple minutes of exercising And breathing habits And could teach their siblings, family And parents breathe And take some exercises And time for themselves when they are feeling stressed. Then the whole family would be calm And could have a relaxing day without fighting, drama or violence that usually goes on in the house And could probably go somewhere for a day since everybody is relaxed And had a awesome day. It would work out at school if a teacher is feeling stressed or a staff member or even one of their friends if they are having a poor day. Then everybody’s day could go great And workout without stress being …show more content…
involved.
“Destiny was in eighth grade when, in the middle of an altercation with another student, she grabbed a teacher’s jacket And threw it out of a classroom window.
But Destiny was not isolated, suspended or arrested. She wasn’t even sent to detention. Before a “justice panel” After all, Many schools that have detention, as mentioned, would have given the child a walk to the principal's office or even a talk with the counselor. The person who had committed to doing a act would have had some serious consequences for throwing a jacket out the window for no reason And just deciding to do it. But when the school has something called a “ Justice Panel” where you take your punishment And do it when told And not lying, just like if you were in court. That would be so much easier because you are telling the truth And if you were in detention, you probably would have lied until your teacher or principal had to bring in the person who had seen you break that law And eventually you would be in more trouble for lying to a adult teacher about it. So without a teacher having to tell you that you did something wrong And you had like a mini court session And told the absolute truth about what you did And you apologized to the person you did it to, would be better because you would start telling the truth And knowing that it is not okay And there is consequences for your
actions.
¨Destiny accepted her sentence without complaint. An adult dean supervised the proceedings, but did not intervene.
These new kid courts, in which students are empowered to set school rules And mete out the punishments for breaking them.¨ Now, When students have taken something like a punishment without complaining, it is easier than having to go to detention for a long time because first of all, you argue that you did not talk back to your teacher or whatever you did that was disagreeable, And second of all, you have a adult watching you And seeing your actions And what you are telling your peer judges. It might be easier to learn from your mistakes And what you have done wrong And taking the punishment so that others don’t follow your actions And do what you are doing. Having a adult reveal to you that you have to go to detention And you have to end up in their extra would be hurtful to your learning time. So instead you can do it at your own time when it's silent work time or at lunch so you have enough time to study, work And try to figure out your situation. This is a serious problem to me because youngsters in my school or school’s that I have been in, most kids keep repeatedly doing what they were doing And got into the habit of doing ill-behaved things no matter if they were in detention. And it could go in contact with a permanent record of you. Many kids lie about having to go to detention And could seriously hurt others by having to go to detention. Instead of detention, there should be talking with the other person or teacher about what happen, breathing exercises, a walk around the school on the inside, talking to a councilor, or come up with something new like telling the situation And having a snack, gaming for 3o minutes, or reading And relaxing. You will exceed And do better in school And with your moods without having detention And you will get into less fights And in less trouble at school and your academic grades will go up. That is why I am for having detention removed from schools everywhere.
