In the short story Everything Will Be Okay, James Howe was a very great kid. He was great because he was kind, sensitive, and determined. James was sensitive when he was shaken up by not being able to keep Smokey, when he saw the dear meat and almost threw up. He was determined when all his family members were trying to convince him that Smokey couldn't stay because he was not well, But James was determined that he would not give up on Smokey and save him. So as you can see, James was kind, sensitive, and determined by not giving up on Smokey. His family was not thinking the same way he was about not giving up Smokey,

In contrast, Jim, a runaway slave, also exemplifies true courage. Jim’s first display of courage occurs in Jim’s decision to escape slavery and risk his own life. “I laid dah under de shavins all day. Here, Atticus educates his children as to the true meaning of heroism. Mrs. Dubose was a rather cranky and offensive old woman who lived nearby. She spoke out harshly against Atticus, and in a fit of rage, Jem attacked her flower bed. As punishment, he had to read to her every day after school. Unknowingly, Jem was helping the woman overcome her morphine addiction. Atticus reveals this to his children after the woman has passed, and lets them evaluate the situation for themselves. Atticus treats his children as adults and shows them the meaning of true courage. The last two lines in the passage serve as an analogy to the Tom Robinson case and show that Atticus knows he will not win, but must try his best in his search for justice.…

Although they all knew they may fail in their fights, their courage gave them the power to continue on bearing the suffering and hardship. Another shared quality is that, through their fights, they were trying to correct something wrong in their lives. Atticus tried to drive out prejudice ,while Mrs. Dubose tried to quit using morphine, while Boo Radley tries to break his long isolation. Another similarity is that the three of them set a goal they aimed to achieve, Atticus wanted to achieve justice through standing up for what he thinks is right no matter what others believe , while Mrs. Dubose aimed to achieve internal peace through her determination to leave this world free of addiction, Boo Radley wanted to achieve happiness through breaking his isolation and observing the children playing by his house and leaving them little gifts. All of them succeeded to achieve their goals and live their pure lives even for short period of time. However The differences between the courage of Atticus , Mrs. Dubose , and Boo Radley that Atticus proceeded to fight for the sake of his children rather than for himself. When examining stories of competition from the past and present, all of them involve a winner and incontestably, a loser. Sports are the most popular form of competition where people will do almost anything to win, including cheat. Performance enhancing drugs are one of the most talked about issues in sport today. Though many people think that doping has only been an issue for the past 30-40 years, there is evidence of athletes using substances to enhance their performance since the early Olympic games in approximately 700 BC. The testing for substances have always been one step behind the latest drug and many tests for banned substance are not always accurate. This makes it very difficult to catch all of the so-called cheaters. Using banned substances can also have dangerous side effects when not used properly and in the past, many athletes have fallen victim to these problems. Due to the vast list of banned substances in high level sport, many athletes have been stripped of their titles when caught taking something as simple as an over the counter flu medication, which many people feel is not fair. The only solution to these issues in sport is to legalize these banned substances. This would eliminate skepticism, allow athletes to be on the same playing field, and potentially save their lives as they would be properly educated on how to safely take performance enhancing drugs.…

The world is filled with uncertainties. Consumer prices, economic fluctuations, political candidate popularity, water quality, portfolio investment management, and everyday decisions, among others, are often ambiguous, unclear, and indeterminate. Statisticians help individuals resolve the vagueness of life by developing characterizations and drawing conclusions surrounding these questions (American Statistical Association [ASA], 2008). Statistics is a division of mathematics that centers on the collection and evaluation of data, which can be drawn upon to make conclusions (Aron, Aron, & Coups, 2006, 2). Two branches of statistics exist, including descriptive and inferential domains. Extrapolation beyond the data is where the real difference emerges. Indeed, these two subcategories vary in function and definition. However, a relationship exists between descriptive and inferential statistics, irrespective of the distinction in purpose and meaning.…
