The Democratic-Republican party was a stable party aswell, this party of James Madison’s lasted for a good few years, as it didn't break off until the year of 1825. James Madison had more than just one vice president in his run through presidency. His first vice president was a man named George Clinton, who was a hero in the revolutionary war and was also the governor of New York for two decades. Like James Madison, George Clinton was apart of the Democratic-Republican party aswell but eventually died due to a heart attack in 1812. James Madison’s second vice president was named Elbridge Gerry and he was also on the Democratic-Republican party. Elbridge was the governor of Massachusetts in the year 1810 before being the Vice president for James Madison. Elbridge then started his vice president run in 1813 and it ran until his death in the next year of 1814. These are two of the main reasons James Madison gets upset, and he declares war with Britain soon after. This war changes a lot and also leads to the original white house being burned down by the British, but peace eventually comes after back and forth fighting from America and Britain. The Treaty of Ghent was signed in December of 1814 to make peace with America and Britain once again. With help from Andrew Jackson, James Madison had peace with Britain after the war of 1812 by proving once again that Americans can hold their own in war no matter how unprepared for war they are (weapons wise, or number of fighters wise). Federalism was also re-born from the first battle of independence from Great Britain and the federalist belief was no longer existent as it went away after the war, so the war of 1812 for James Madison was seen as a success for him. Another thing James Madison dealt with as president was the actual burning of his home, the original white house. Burned by the British, James Madison had to escape the white house with his family and more importantly his wife, Dolley Madison, who saved the oil-made painting of president George Washington that is still in the White house
