What was the first successful English colony founded in 1607?
The first successful English colony was Jamestown. What was the headright system?
The headright system was used by the Virginia Company which gave 50 acres of land for each person that a settler paid to bring over to North America. This allowed estates to be established, which could be worked by indentured servants.

How long did indentured servants work for?
They worked for 7-10 years, after which they were paid their dues so that they could hopefully start their own farms. However, the money often wasn’t enough, and many of these servants died before they could be paid.
