Jamie Johnson Homeland Security
Summary:
Homeland Security's head of community outreach, Jamie Johnson, has been under attack for some time now because of comments he made in the past. Previously, CNN filed a report about these quite disturbing comments he made about the black community and on men and women who practice Islam. In past radio broadcasting shows Johnson has made comments such as, “ Islam’s only contribution to society was oil and dead bodies,” or that African American men and women have turned many American cities into “slums.” Many believe that those comments do not represent the values of the Department of Homeland Security and are not sure how they feel about him continuing to work there. All controversy has been halted when Jamie Johnson turned in his letter

Just one day after Anwar al-Awlaki issued a fatwa calling for the killing of millions of Americans, Stakelbeck found that –just a few miles from the White House — the largest Islamic store in the Washington, D.C., area featured a prominent display of Awlaki’s CDs and DVDs, along with other racist hate materials and books defending Islamic terrorism. When he interviewed the store’s owner he was told that the materials were for sale because “they were very good sellers.” Erick Stakelbeck has been willing to ask prominent U.S. Muslim leaders hard questions about their support for Islamic radicalism. Mr. Stakelbeck has traveled to Dearborn, Michigan, and interviewed supposed “interfaith” leader Imam Mohammed Ali Elahi, who regularly consults with the Detroit FBI leadership. Imam quickly got tongue-tied after being asked about his open support for terrorist groups and the photographs on his own website that showed him with former Iranian dictator Ayatollah Khomeini and with leaders of…

Tyler Joseph is a musician, singer, rapper, and songwriter, best known as a lead vocalist for the musical duo Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph as the lead singer and creator of this duo, is often ridiculed because there are so many people who don’t know where they should be categorized. Many people say that they can be known as alternative hip hop and rock, whereas, others say that they could be known as pop. Many critics also believe that their music isn’t good, that there’s no meaning behind it except for the literal meaning of the words put together. In taking my position on this matter, I looked at the questions presented and could easily tell how an answer could reveal someone’s personal views on a matter, therefore, placing them in a position to be discriminated against. For instance, there are questions asking about an individual’s beliefs that are in direct violation of the U.S. Department of Justice policy which states that the department itself tries to “eliminate discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, age or physical or mental handicap” (Bethel, 2013, p. 568). Since the Department of Homeland security is a federal agency, this type of questioning cannot occur. However, with such an…

Friedmann and Cannon assessed that the development of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its policies has caused a "side-stepping" of community policing efforts. The researchers stated that this rooted from the importance and level of urgency that the DHS was created. It caused the community policing policies to be seen as ineffective towards "domestic security and terrorist prevention". The investigators argue, however, that the evidence they…

But not even, something as simple as evacuating the people of New Orleans was done. It seems their was no other reason for these simple plans of action to be ignored other than racial motivation. One way to think about the situation is, if whether President Bush had any family members living in the area would his urgency to aid the victims have changed? Would he have done more for the people? I’m sure the answer is yes, and I believe that Eliza Hubbard would agree. Even the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was delayed in responding to the call to aid the victims 5 hours after the hurricane hit. Other Doctors from everywhere came to help the victims of Katrina, but when FEMA saw these doctors helping, they told them to stop if they were not FEMA approved. How heartless can one be to stop people from helping others for the mere fact that they weren’t FEMA…

There have been major incidents in our generation that have caused the need for diversity reform in law enforcement. The biggest incident was the attacks on the United States of America that occurred on September 11th, 2001. The attacks that occurred on this day caused great hate for the Middle Eastern culture. According to huffingtonpost.com there have been multiple occurrences of violence against the Middle Eastern culture post 9/11. The one that stuck out to me the most was “Sept. 15, 2001 – Mesa, Ariz.: Four days after the infamous attacks of 9/11, Balbir Singh Sodhi, a 49-year-old Sikh, is shot and killed outside the gas station he owned by Frank Silva Roque. When police approached to arrest him, Roque says, I’m a patriot and an American. I’m American. I’m a damn American.” (huffingtonpost.com) Tragedies like this call for reform in how we police these communities, people have developed unfair bias’ towards people they know nothing about, and it is up to law enforcement to protect and serve the community, no matter what race, religion or what have you.…

The bias among many Americans since the September 11 attacks leads to many treating those of the Islamic faith as sub-humans; therefore, prejudice against them are justified by civilians. Decka infers that the racialization is unethical because it places people with different values against each other. In this case, it is Muslims who are often discriminated because they are seen as less civil than others. The inhumane treatment of those detained are justified because their cultural differences make them the enemy. However, Decka believes that even though they may be a potential threat, there should be alternatives and do the ethical thing and treat those detained as humans instead of…

The attacks of 9/11/2001 have affected and changed American citizens and the country forever. That day has had one of the most horrible impacts on the United States of America that it has ever received. Since that day, security and freedom of speech have taken a 180 degree turn. Liptak (2010, February 10) says reports that in February 2010, Ralph D. Fertig, a lawyer, said that he would like to help a militant Kurdish group in Turkey find peaceful ways to achieve its goal. But he fears prosecution under a law banning even benign assistance to groups said to engage in terrorism. The Supreme Court will soon hear Fertig's challenge to the law.…
