The original Ministry of Food was set up by the British Government in England during the Second World War. It was about creating a network of food advisors and cooking teachers to educate the public on food and nutrition at a time when there was limited food available to feed England and where rationing was part of life. It was a way to educate people at time of crisis.
In Australia it was introduced in 1942 and this is when wartime recipes were published in magazines, brochures and even the radio programs. This was an important initiative in order to stop people dying from malnutrition and diet related illnesses.

This will reduce the temptation of wanting to eat junk foods and also make food labelling more informative. Promotion of chocolate flavoured cereals as ‘healthy’ should be banned. Better, healthier options should be promoted and shown instead.
The Australian Dietary Guidelines for Adolescents is an initiative that is introduced by the Australian Health department showing both children and adults the different food groups they should be eating from and the amounts of food to be consumed based on age. It was created with scientific evidence to provide information on the types of foods that should be consumed and the food groups.
