The learners demonstrate understanding in acting a story using “The Elements of Short Story”
Performance Standard: Students will perform a “Mute Play” based on the story they made
Essential Understanding: * The 5 Elements of Short Story are Setting, Plot, Characters, Conflict, Theme * “Element” means a constituent part or forming part to create a short Story. * The Short Story cannot be form with out the 5 Elements
Essential Questions: * What are the “5 elements of Short Story”? * What does the word “element” mean? * What is Plot? * What is setting? * What is conflict? * What is Theme? * What is Character? * What is the use of 5 elements of Short Story?
Stage II
Performance Standard: “Mute Play”
Other Evidences: * Note Taking * Story telling * Graded Recitation
Stage III At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
Objectives:
* Identify the “5 elements of a Short Story” * Determine the function of each element * Create a short story using the elements
Materials to be used: * Box * Manila paper * Masking tape * Bond paper
Explore:
* Share their ideas about the story they like the most * Create and summarize the story based on the chosen title
Firm-up:
* Present to the class the story and identify where is the setting, what is the plot, who are the characters, what is the Theme and conflict * Confirm whether the identified elements are right or wrong then Introduce the topic the “5 elements of Short Story”
Deepen:
* Read the Short Story entitled “ The Wise Judge” * Identify the 5 elements in the given Short Story * Create their own version of the story “The Wise Judge”

Explore
Activity 1- Motivation * Ask the students if they are fine * Ask them if they read a story that make them laugh, cry or touch * Among the stories that they read, what is the most captivating story that made them like it most
Activity 2- Sharing * Group them into 5 groups * The students have their group sharing * After sharing they will choose one story that agreed by the group * They will summarize the chosen story * Write their story in a creative visual aid * Students are given 45 minutes to create their own story
Firm-up
Activity 3- Presentation * Present their group work (post the visual aid in the board) * Every group has a volunteer to go in front to pick a paper inside the box * Inside the box are there group numbers
Example: if the volunteer picked the no.5 but he/she belongs to group no.2. Group no.2 should identify where the elements in the work of group no.5 are. * The leader or representative will write in the board the Elements
Activity 4- Confirmation * Correct their work * Introduce the topic
Deepen
Activity 5- Reading * The students are group again ( the same group) * The Students will read the story “ The Wise Judge” (this story serve as their guide in making their own story) * In a 1 whole sheet of paper each of the student will determine the 5 elements of a given Short story
Activity 6- Creating * State: I hope you know how to determine the 5 elements of short story
And now I want you to create your own short story; the story “The Wise Judge” will serve as your guide to create your own story * They will create their own version of the Story with the same title “The Wise Judge” but this story should have a dialogue
Transfer
Activity 7- Apply * They will perform a play called the “ Mute Play” * Again back to their group * Each member of the group should have their own character * The presentation will be performed with props and costumes
How to do it? * They will have a role playing , this role playing is different from other plays * The characters are not allowed to use their voice * Only the narrator is allowed to speak * The characters make their gestures exaggerated in order for their classmates to determine what they want to deliver
