Java Applet Checkpoint
A Java applet is a small program designed to run on a web page or in a Java virtual machine. The small size of the applet allows it to be executed in most browsers quickly. Applets can be used for various jobs from displaying images to custom navigation menus and even in-browser applications like calculators. A great resource I have found for Java applets is http://www.javafile.com. This site provides many different applets for people to use on their sites. One applet in particular located at http://www.javafile.com/forms/emailform5.php I found useful was an email form that validates entries in each field, verifies if the person has already submitted the form via cookie then launches the person default email client on submit. (JavaFile.com, 2010)

JavaFILE

I feel this Java applet could enhance a website by making the user experience less complicated. The Java applet also enhances the email received because the user is required to enter data into all fields and cannot be spammed by the form unless the user clears their cookies. Overall this would be a great addition to a website. The difference between Java applets and JavaScript is that applets can stand on their own while JavaScript must be used in conjunction with HTML documents. Java applets are also set programs that are set when the developer compiles the code. JavaScript can be modified on the fly and modified to customize certain points on a website.

Java is multi-platform and allows a much broader audience to be reached. The .NET framework is aimed primarily at the Windows OS whereas Java is targeted at many different platforms including gadgets, gaming, mobiles as well as windows and the Apple equivalent. This is because Java runs on it’s own virtual machine that can installed on any platform. This is something that should always be considered at the beginning of a project so the developer can reach it’s target audience.…

America's first form of government was under the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was written after the Revolutionary War, compiled of ideas by the Continental Congress. Under the Articles of Confederation its powers included conducting foreign relations, settling disputes between states, controlling maritime affairs, regulating Indian trade, and valuing state and national coinage. It purposely did not give the national government all the power in fear of tyranny like in Britain. In the end, the Articles of Confederation proved to be both inadequate in economic conditions and foreign relations.…

JS is probably the most used programing with almost every website having a few JS lines in it. Server side apps software that access to databases, files, and network sockets are capable APIs and in my opinion there is a hazy line between server-side and client-side scripting, for example server-side scripts can manipulate a web page DOM, browser quirks and bugs are some biggest complaints (Tetlaw, 2013).. JS engines are on most browsers with many server implementations of JS in conjunction with PHP, ASP.Net, and Ruby on Rails. JavaScript libraries such as jQuery would work on the server and as noted previously features such as server-side DOM manipulation should also be possible. On the…

Below is a letter which King Ferdinand sent along with Columbus on his second voyage to Haiti. It was to be communicated to the Taino/Arawak Indians. It is a fascinating document. The King wants the Indians to acknowledge the Christian religion and God, and to accept the authority of the King of Spain. The letter is a mix of promises of benefits that will come to them, but quickly followed up with the direst of threats if they do no comply.…

    Checkpoint Conflict

Conflict is an inevitable part of life whether it is in relationships, socially, or between nations. Most conflicts arise from differing points of view on actions or goals and how they are handled can lead to a ceasefire or the breakup of one’s relationships. Conflict resolution skills are needed when navigating the stormy waters of conflict. How one perceives the goals and intentions of others can lead to misconceptions. When an individual or group perceives another’s intentions are harmful conflict will arise. It is human nature to believe that one’s group is different or better than another group. Forming an “in-group bias” will lead one to look for evidence to support one’s negative opinions of others. Stereotyping is often behind negative opinions and misconceptions that lead to conflicts.…

Imperial Rome began under Caesar Augustus around 37 BCE and ultimately ended in 1453 when the city was sacked by the Ottoman Turks. When the Roman Empire began, it coexisted with many other prominent civilisations, such as the Etruscans, the later Egyptian dynasties and perhaps Rome's biggest architectural rival, the Ancient Greeks. However the Romans surpassed their rival civilisations architecturally, by extending their influence well into the next millennia, and in doing so they absorbed the Greek, Egyptians, and Etruscans, and other “lesser” contemporary civilisations. This may suggest initially that the Romans would achieve a diversity of architectural style, whereas theirs was remarkably uniform. Some of their building methods and styles were, however, obtained from other civilisations such as the Greeks and the Etruscans. Despite this, Roman architectural form remains distinctive, because of a particular reliance on recognisable geometric forms , simple structural logic and the use of simple construction materials. For example, with these, the forms of the Colosseum and the Pantheon created broad and impressive architectural spaces which continue to make an impact on architecture to this day, particularly in the area of civic buildings. What distinguishes Roman architecture is its technical advances which allowed the Romans to define space uniquely and impressively only using materials as simple as bricks and concrete.…

The Java Ring, first introduced at Java One Conference, has been tested at Celebration School, an innovative K-12 school just outside Orlando; FL.The rings given to students are programmed with Java applets that communicate with host applications on networked systems. Applets are small applications that are designed to be run within another application. The Java Ring is snapped into a reader, called a Blue Dot receptor, to allow communication between a host system and the Java Ring.…

Each look-and-feel package contains a class derived from the abstract class javax.swing.LookAndFeel: BasicLookAndFeel, MetalLookAndFeel, WindowsLookAndFeel, etc. These are the central points of access to each look-and-feel package. You use them when changing the current look-and-feel, and the UIManager class (which is used to manage installed look-and-feels) uses them to access the current look-and-feel's UIDefaults table (which contains, among other things, UI delegate class names for each Swing component's corresponding look-and-feel).…
