The memoir I read is about a young woman, Koren Zailckas, who, over the course of growing up, not only experimented with alcohol, but also went through the whole cycle of alcohol abuse. She shares her experiences in order to present that this can be the case with anyone and evolves over time, not all at once. She begins the story by talking about one of her childhood friends, Natalie, with whom presented Koren’s first sip of alcohol. She describes Natalie as one of those friends who always was the first to do things, and to encourage others to jump on board. After trying Southern Comfort at the young age of 14, she realizes that this alcohol stuff makes the inhibitions, which she struggles with so often, disappear—She loves this. She wants to drink more after this time, but Natalie goes away to a boarding school, and Koren’s source of alcohol goes right with her. She goes on to talk about her drinking experiences in high school, particularly at age 16 when she requires her stomach to be pumped after a party. She went on to college where she stayed in the party scene, joined a sorority, and continued her bad habits. She had many negative experiences including sexual encounters, fights, and problems with relationships, all while under the influence of heavy alcohol. She tries quitting a few times unsuccessfully, even moving away from the party scene. She is finally able to quit at the age of 23 after realizing how much it cost her.…

    2. Tan's mother went out of her way to prepare a disturbingly Chinese dinner because she wanted to demonstrate to her guests as well as her daughter that their Chinese heritage was nothing to be embarrassed about, but rather something to be proud of. She proved this by taking the menu to the extreme. For an example, in the last sentence, "For Christmas Eve that year, she had chosen all my favorite foods."; this demonstrates that, although Tan was embarrassed at the time of the dinner, her mother had chosen that she now realizes that she knew in her heart that the dinner did represent her Chinese heritage and that she should have been proud of it. The sentence that best describes the lesson Amy learned is, “You must be proud you are different”.…

She is amazing and probably the most important person I have she is my best friend. She has been my best friend for the last 4 years. I have known her since I entered high school and since that day we have become the most inseparable friends in the world. I have much affection toward her, we have lived many things together, through thick and thin, she always been there for me when I needed her. She is a little taller than me and always makes those few inches a big deal. In her eyes I’m supposed to be the tallest because I’m the oldest which is true sometimes but not this time. She is the type of girl that doesn’t wake up super early to fix her hair; she would rather have the extra sleep. She would rather eat a juicy Big Mac instead of a boring salad because she says “salads are for cows”. She would rather spend the day in her sweatpants and a pain white t-shirt because she find them more comfortable then a dress or skinny jeans. She has those hazy eyes that get you in a trance; her eyelashes are long and beautiful. Her personality is one of the things that. I love about her, she can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens and still have a smile on her face. When she smiles it’s because she feels like screaming. She is a strong girl even when other are not. Her hair has the sweet scent of strawberry and is always messy, even when we go out. She is a very attractive girl in my eye, she is tall but I think that's what makes her look cute. She is normally thick and her skin is caramel .Her touch makes people shudder like a cold breeze of winter, it’s smooth and hasty. Her smile is a bit crooked but it’s a genuine smile, not a lot people don’t see her smile because she hates her smile only the people she trusts see her genuine crooked smile. When she smiles her dimple appears which is the cutest thing because she hates it and tries to hide it but I always notice them. If I can describe her in a few words they would be friendly, respectful, hardworking, and an honest…

The Jaguar Smile: A Nicaraguan Journey written by Salman Rushdie, is a non-fiction book that gives the reader insight to the internal turmoil taking place in the nation of Nicaragua. Salman Rushdie is a British-Indian novelist who gained his fame for his fantastical novels about the post-colonial relationship between cultures of the East and West. Rushdie became interested in Nicaraguan affairs when the Regan administration started its “war” against Nicaragua. “I was myself the child of a successful revolt against a great power, my consciousness the product of the triumph of the Indian Revolution” (p.4). Rushdie made his trip to Nicaragua in July of 1986. He came to know a wide range of people, from the President to the everyday citizens. His perceptions were always heightened by his sensitivity and his unique flair for language. “I did not go to Nicaragua intending to write a book, or, indeed, to write at all; but my encounter with the place affected me so deeply that in the end I had no choice” (p.5). In this book Rushdie brings us the true Nicaragua where nothing is simple, everything is contested, and life-or-death struggles are an everyday occurrence.…

Dentistry isn’t just a profession; it’s a way of life. Helping others is the best way to live, and that’s exactly what you do. “Blessed are those who hold lively conversations with the hopelessly mute, for they shall be called dentists” (Ann Landers). We all dread our next go around at the dentist. Getting our teeth cleaned, drilled, pulled, and any other horrible exploit being done to our poor teeth. What our dentist is doing (besides invading our mouths), is protecting us from any diseases that could potentially form in our mouths. A dentist is “one who is skilled, licensed and practice the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the mouth.”…

Teeth are one of the most important features of our body. Teeth are comprised of hard, bony structures in the mouths of humans primarily used to chew food. Teeth are the body's hardest, most durable organ—long after bones and flesh have dissolved, archaeologists find well-preserved teeth from humans and other animals that lived thousands of years ago.…
