Jay Gatsby Personality

Jay Gatsby, also known as Gatsby, is one of the most important characters in the story and shows many different personality and character traits from anyone else. He was a flat character. Gatsby did not change much from the moment Nick met him till the day he fell over dead in his own pool. He was very wealthy and everyone in the story seems to know how he became so wealthy in a different way. Although Gatsby seems to be the one that would be around everyone all of the time he is remarkably shy. Gatsby does not have very many friends, even though he is known to throw large, crazy, spectacular parties. Most of the people that attend do not even know who the host of the party is. “…the two or three people of whom I asked his whereabouts stared
at me in such an amazed way” (Fitzgerald 42). Gatsby does not make an effort to introduce himself to anyone there. He was throwing the party for only one reason, to empress Daisy Buchanan. For the most part he keeps things to himself and does not obsess over someone, unless that someone is Daisy. Gatsby always knew he wanted to be with her but knew that she would never want to be with someone who is poor. So Gatsby changed his life around for her. “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay” (Fitzgerald 78). Once he became rich he went back for her. He Knew that she would not like him if he was not better than who he was before so he changed himself. You cannot argue the fact that Gatsby is a static character. As well as a well-developed round character that has a lot of meaning throughout the story. Gatsby’s has a powerful personality and is extraordinary optimistic to make the story even more expressive than it was before.
