Jazz Concert Review
For the second time in my life I attended another jazz concert. On Wednesday, November 30, 2016 I went to the Morgy Craig Annual Memorial Jazz Scholarship Award Concert and it was put on by the Ball State Jazz Ensembles. The setting of the concert was at Sursa Hall, which sits on the corner of Riverside and McKinley Avenues, and is a beautiful concert hall that is brick on the outside and on the inside has wood paneling. The concert I found to be very incredible overall and twice as better as the first one which I did not find too impressing. This concert was undoubtedly exciting to anyone who attended in the way that every song played was in my opinion very energizing, but some better than the others and the concert had short, yet grammy winning solos. All of which compiled into a night that deemed unforgettable. Unlike the first concert I went to a few months ago this one actually grabbed my attention. Every ensemble was very talented and something different to bring to the table. The many songs performed in the concert were all very well put together pieces. Though out of the eleven songs played I picked three of which I really enjoyed the most. All three songs were performed by the first ensemble directed by Mark Buselli. The first song was That Old Black Magic. The song contained a brief saxophone solo that was played very swiftly. I found the song particularly interesting because it was …show more content…
It a grand performance by the Ball State Jazz Ensembles led by three directors who of which were LaMont Webb, Freddie Mendoza, and Mark Buselli. The concert was held in the beautiful concert theatre, Sursa Hall. The concert was twice as better as the first jazz concert I went to in October which had no match at all. This concert for sure will be one I will not forget with beautiful voices of the vocalists and will most likely urge me to attend more next

On Friday, December 6th, I attended the Sac State Vocal Jazz Ensembles. The show began with special guests Christian Brothers Vocal Jazz. This young group of singers were extremely talented for their age. They held their harmonies and expressed their talents in each piece they performed. It was quite impressive and heartwarming because these students looked so into the music that it showed the passion they have for singing and vocal jazz. Following these talented young students, the Sac State Jazz Singers came on stage and did an excellent job at their pieces as well. I appreciated the song choices and arrangements for each piece. They definitely showed the hard work and practice they put into each piece and I overly enjoyed the show they put on. With all of the songs from both groups, dynamics, harmonies, unison, scatting, and different rhythms, especially in 4/4 time signature, were portrayed throughout.…

For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show. Since the concert took place in the lobby of the music hall, people saw the bright lights coming from the ceiling and they also enjoyed to majestic surrounding of the large glass windows. The Wind Ensemble concert event was a smoothing time to reflect on…

I made a right decision by going to the Phat Cat Swinger show at Hip Kitty Jazz and Fondue in Claremont on Friday, February 3, 2012. The show was more than just impressive! The venue was an upper club and lounge with retro decoration that could bring you back to the jazz era. The stage was neat, simple and organized. There were people of all ages. Just like me, they came there to enjoy the music and danced the night away.…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

On Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 PM I went to The University of North Florida’s “Jazz Combo Night” in the Fine Arts Center’s Robinson Theatre. I had never been to a Jazz concert before and I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect since I haven’t really given much attention to jazz or jazz concerts before. I ended up having such a great experience and I even found myself mesmerized at times by the instruments and how beautiful they sounded being played. I am really grateful I attended the concert because I know have a much greater appreciation for live jazz music and even jazz in general and attending a jazz concert is definitely something I would do again in the future. In Combo 3 the songs Feline by Sebastian Pinillos and untitled written by Albie Sherman. Pedro Millan and Sebastian Pinillos played the tenor…

Overall, I feel that attending this concert made me more aware of the diversity of style. I enjoyed the many different sounds that this orchestra performed. I also enjoyed the dramatic tension I and the vibe that was given in the pieces . But mostly what I enjoyed the most of this whole performance was the second to last piece that was played. The way that the saxophone was played opened my ears to a new sound that I never heard. For this being the first concert that I have attended I can honestly say that this was a great…

They played about 5 different songs but I could only catch four of them. The first song they played was called “You Don’t Know What Love is”. They didn’t mention who made the song. The song had a rough texture. All the instruments were playing very loud and wildly throughout the song. There wasn’t much form to this song. The saxophone was playing its own tune while the piano, cello, and drums had some type of repetition. There wasn’t a melody. I felt like they were playing off each other’s energy. There was some rhythm to this song but majority of the time it sounded like it was all freestyle. I think its just because jazz is played like that. The dynamics to this song was very soft and low key aside from the saxophone. The tempo was slow at first then it really picked up 30 seconds into the song. Overall…

For my event I attended the Black Swamp Arts Festival back in September. This festival was over a whole weekend and it was filled with eclectic styles of art and music. Walking through the festival and seeing the different booths made me feel like I was in a whole new world sometimes. The art was gorgeous, some of it was funny and amusing, and others were moving and were very deep. The musical portion of the weekend is where I found my most memorable events that I believe related to this class in particular. I saw two very different musical performances, one was the modern jazz pair called GINKGOA, and the second was the female mariachi band called MARIACHI FLOR DE TOLOACHE. Both were culturally diverse performances both within the group and…

Kanye West meets Beethoven is the only way to describe the three gentlemen who make up the sensational violinist duo known as Black Violin. Kev Marcus and Wil B are the violinists and are accompanied by DJ TK. Black Violin has created incredible synergy between classical and Hip-Hop music. They have created beautiful music like I have never heard before. They first made their big splash when they won the 2005 “Apollo Legends” contest in the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. They take the hip-hop culture and music and blend it together with the classical genre, and trust me your ears will thank you for taking them to the show. I admit I am not a huge fan of violins and the music they can create, but hip-hop is my life…
