Capstone Plan of Study (POS)
The Capstone Plan of Study (POS) is a learning contract, developed by the student, between the student and the instructor. Students will be responsible for submitting the POS to the instructor.

Course Description
This course provides the student an opportunity to utilize leadership, management, and research theory and skills to identify a nursing problem and propose the implementation of an evidence-based solution to the nursing problem.

1. Capstone Project Nursing Problem: The lack of knowledge of RN Case Managers in hospice regarding pain management needs to be improved to properly provide for end of life care. The employer does not have an education department to educate its staff.
2. Capstone Goal(s):
Assess the staff’s current knowledge on the physical and emotional signs and symptoms of pain.
Search literature for current assessment techniques and tools.
Research literature for current in-service training/education tools.
Present an in-class education/presentation on proper pain management techniques for all staff.
3. Capstone Objectives:
Evaluate evidence-based literature based on the nursing problem.
Develop a process improvement plan that improves patient care and nursing knowledge.
Design an effective tool kit for staff to utilize to perform efficient and effective pain management, and that will provide the knowledge they need to do so.
