J.D Salinger was what he was, an inspiring writer. This profesor made him the writer he was by giving him opportunities since he was the editor of Story magazine. When Mr. Burnett say Salinger’s talent he was amazed and made him a famous writer. J.D Salinger was always passionate about writing and expressing others through it.
He did not started his career at a good time since it was around the beginning of World War II and there was a big unemployment rate, him included. After the Pearl attack Salinger serve as a military for about two years. He spend most of his time on France serving for the United States and participated on the Battle of the Bluge. During catrastophic this period he decided to do what he likes best, write and writing could be the only hobby that could make him feel what he really was. So on this wartime he decided to write about Holden Caufield, the main character on The Catcher in the Rye. He wanted to represent his time at World War II by this
book. Salinger was a writer, not a soldier so he did not have a clear idea on what he was doing and all the horrible things he was about to see. After this traumatic years he spend serving his country he had a nervous breakdown from everything he had been trough and he was even hospitalised for a while. After he was slowly recuperating he met a Geman woman, possibly Nazi, and they fell in love and got married. This marriage was a disaster since they had broken up 8 months later. Salinger, although he had been through all these, did not gave up on love. He then married a British woman who they been together for more than 10 years and even had children. After the war, he started publishing his stories, and of course the famous novel. The first short story that was published was "A Perfect Day for Bananafish” on 1948, a few years after the war. Then, two years after (1950) he published "For Esmé--With Love and Squalor”. He wrote more then 35 short stories. These two stories are based on his time on the war. This stories were not about him but it did representes terrible incidents he had see and he remembered for the remaining of this life. "A Perfect Day for Bananafish” describes the life of a veteran soldier on the war that ends up committing sucide because of all the damage he had inside. The other story "For Esmé--With Love and Squalor” is about a soldier from the united states with two british children. This story is the best that describes him since he was a US soldier with two kids who had a british mother. A year after "For Esmé--With Love and Squalor” was published, the Catcher in the Rye got published and this is how his career got recognized. Not everyone thinks the same about this novel and there were always reviews that were not so good but this novel is what made Salinger be as famous as he was. Salinger was an author who has been through a lot on the 91 years he was alive. He had such an inspiration from the war and he knew how to represent it on his writing and that was how his success encounter him. Many soldiers could relate to his shorts stories since they had been though the same. As GradeSaver LLC says (1999-2015): “What is not in doubt is that the author, who died aged 91 in 2010, would have hated the spotlight it shines on his life and work.” Salinger did not write so he could be famous and have the spotlight, he wrote because he wanted to represent what he and his other soldier colleagues went trough.
