Iago over for a promotion which was for Cassio to become commander instead of Iago. Out of revenge, Iago successfully planted the seeds of jealousy into Othello’s mind when in the garden Iago insinuated that Cassio and Desdemona were having an affair, when Iago lied to Othello about Cassio’s so-called wild dream, and when Iago had his wife Emilia steal the strawberry embroided handkerchief.
Out of revenge, Iago successfully planted the seeds of jealousy into Othello’s mind when in the garden Iago insinuated that Cassio and Desdemona were having an affair. Honest Iago advised Michael Cassio to ask Desdemona help to get his job back. Iago told Cassio that Othello would listen to his wife. Iago knew that Cassio and Desdemona were just good friends. Iago tells Othello to hide in the bushes, while he spoke to Cassio about Desdemona, but they were really talking about Bianca. Cassio and Iago talked about Bianca but made Othello think it was about Desdemona which made him get jealous and angry. Bianca shows up and tells Cassio that she is not going to make the handkerchief if it was from another woman. Othello gets mad and wants Cassio dead because he’s cheating on his wife with another woman. Iago is implying that there is something going on between Cassio and Desdemona. What Iago said about the Venetian wives was that they are untrustworthy because they all deceive their husbands with their secret pranks. What Iago is getting to his implications is that the woman in venice are always lying to their husbands and since Desdemona had lied to her father they think she’s probably lying to Othello too. Iago manipulates Othello until jealousy hit Othello. Iago tells Othello to be aware of the woman because they're always lying to their husbands. Iago convinces Roderigo that Cassio and Desdemona have a thing, and decides that he will use Cassio to make Othello jealous. He convinces Roderigo to fight with Cassio in order to get Cassio in trouble. Iago gets Cassio drunk, watches him get into a rough fight, and then tells Othello all about it. Iago was successful in planting his first seeds of jealousy into Othello’s
Mind.
Out of revenge, Iago successfully planted the seeds of jealousy into Othello’s mind when Iago lied to Othello about Cassio’s so-called wild dream. Iago tells Othello about the dream that Cassio had while they were sleeping. In Cassio’s dream he said “sweet Desdemona, let us be wary, let us hide our love.” Iago is framing Cassio to make it look like he has had something with Desdemona. Othello accepts the fact that Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio, even though all this is a lie and set up by Iago to get revenge on Othello. Iago lied about Cassio having a “wild dream” about Desdemona. He wanted to frame Cassio. He wanted Othello to be mad with Cassio and kill him. Othello believed Iago again, even though Iago has fooled him once he still believed him this time too, he believed him because they were friends. Othello became more and more jealous. Iago was successful in planting more seeds of jealousy into othello’s mind.
Out of revenge, Iago successfully planted the seeds of jealousy into Othello’s mind when Iago had his wife Emilia steal the strawberry embroided handkerchief.
Othello’s first gift of love was given to Desdemona which was the handkerchief that was their symbol of love for them, which is also the romantic history of the handkerchief. Desdemona talks to the handkerchief because she wanted everything to go right with her and Othello and for all the rumors of her and Cassio to stop because the one she really loved was Othello. Othello’s mother gave it to Othello to give to his wife when he gets married. Othello tells Desdemona that the strawberries were hand stitched with thread that has been dyed. Iago knows how much this handkerchief means to Othello and so he tells his wife to steal the handkerchief. Iago also knows that is symbolizes Desdemona’s faithfulness to Othello. The handkerchief is a symbol of Othello’s past. An egyptian charmer gave it to Othello’s mother and that it would keep his father under her spell. Desdemona keeps the handkerchief because it’s a symbol of Othello’s love and Iago manipulates the handkerchief so that Othello comes to see it as a symbol of Desdemona’s faith. The handkerchief was lost because Emilia had taken it when Desdemona had dropped it and she gave it to her husband Iago. Iago put it in Cassio’s room. When Cassio finds the handkerchief in his room he tell Bianca to copy the stitching on it. Othello sees this as a betrayal from Desdemona since he gave the handkerchief to her and now Cassio has it. Iago was successful at setting up Othello by having his wife steal the handkerchief and putting it in Cassio’s room so Iago can really prove to Othello that him and Desdemona did have a
thing.
The main thesis in this argument is how Iago’s planned worked, which was to get Othello Jealous by him lying to Othello that Desdemona and Cassio had a thing. The key points I made in my body paragraphs was how Iago had plans to keep fooling Othello and to get Cassio in trouble and for Othello to believe Iago about Cassio and Desdemona, also to start a war, and to show the love that Othello and Desdemona had before Iago ruined it all. However, I think that not everyone should believe what people say they should play the game to see the truth with their own eyes, instead of believing others right off the bat like Othello believed Iago. Iago made up so much lies and rumors to get Othello to hate Desdemona and it worked.
