Jean-Claude Van Itallie's Mystery Play
Mystery Play, written by Jean-Claude van Itallie was first produced at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City on January 3, 1973. Jacques Levy was the director. Peaslee wrote the song “We Want a King” for the play. The song is included with the play book. Words were written by van Itallie and Peaslee wrote the melody and basic harmonization. The music came from the previous collaboration, The King of the United States, that Peaslee wrote for van Itallie.
Troilus and Cressida opened November 10, 1973 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The play was present by the New York Shakespeare Festival and directed by David Schweitzer.
Moliere’s Don Juan was restaged in October 30, 1975 by the Yale Repertory Theater. The production was translated by

The work was translated by Michael Meyer and adapted for the Yale Repertoire Theatre. This 1978 version was directed by Robert Brustein. The music was written by Richard Peaslee.

Frankenstein by Victor Gialanella had one performance at the Palace Theatre on January 4, 1981. The play was directed by Tom Moore. Richard Peaslee composed the background music. The production had an unsuccessful premiere and closed the same day, losing two million dollars.
The Children’s Crusade is a musical by Richard Peaslee and Kenneth Cavander based on the sixth crusade in the year 1212. It opened at the Theater for the New City in March 1981. The production was directed by Meridee Stein and the large was were members of the Fact Company (mostly children). There was also a small percussive orchestra performing with the production.
