Rousseau's own view of way of thinking related to learning about how people think and people who think a lot about how people think was firmly negative, seeing people who think a lot about how people think as the after-hoc give reasons for something of self-interest, as supporters and defenders of something for different forms of very bad treatment, and as playing a role in the loneliness irritation of the modern individual from people's natural sudden unplanned desire to kindness for something that's suffering. The concern that rules Rousseau's work is to find a way of preserving human freedom in a world where human beings are more and more dependent on one another for the happiness from meeting a need or reaching a goal of their needs. This concern has two dimensions material and mental, of which the last thing just mentioned has greater importance.
