The religion has some basics that the followers of Jediism try to follow. The first thing they have to follow is a list of thirty-three teachings (JEDI). These teachings are a set of characteristics and virtues that a Jedi should practice. These characteristics can somewhat be compared to the ‘Fruit of The Spirit’ in Christianity. This religion also has three principles of – “Wisdom, Focus, and knowledge” (JEDI). “When used correctly, the Jedi principles allow us to better ourselves and overcome any obstacle. They help us improve the world around us and fulfil our purpose in life as a Jedi” …show more content…
(JEDI). These practices I believe are very good to learn and keep doing. Even if a person is not very religious; I believe that these practices can help a person get through life with a great moral mindset. It is very interesting that “Real Jedi do not worship George Lucas or Star Wars” (JEDI). I heard of some people that are followers of the religion that do not even care at all for the movie series. Lastly the Jedi’s “Jedi is an inspirational way of life for many people throughout the world who take on the belief. Jedi apply the principles, ideals, philosophies and teachings in a practical way” (JEDI). That is what Jedi’s stand for.
One of the main reasons I picked to cover this religion was due to how new this religion is.
I find it to be very interesting due to the fact that rarely will there be any newer religions that come to light. Most religions that can be found started a very long time ago and have become tradition for some families. I think this religion would attract many of the newer generations of teenagers and young adults if they have not expressed any interest in a religion yet or if their family does not go to church somewhere. I also find it quite interesting that “Jediism is a religion based on the observance of the Force, a ubiquitous and metaphysical power that a Jedi (a follower of Jediism) believes to be the underlying, fundamental nature of the universe. Jediism finds its roots in philosophies similar to those presented in an epic space opera called “Star Wars”. It is a religion in and of itself” (The Temple). I also found it quite interesting that the Star Wars saga has no correlation to their religion. They believe in the force in just believe that the movie showed off the force and how it works. (The
Temple)
Jediism is a very interesting religion. I am glad I was able to write an essay over this subject, because I never really go off and research other religions then that of my own. This has been a very enlightening experience for me. It has not made me change my mind on anything but it has opened my eyes to other people’s faith and beliefs.
