Between Jem and Scout, the character who's changed the most is Jem; he thought he'd be mature and tell Scout what to do. Jem demands “Scout, try not to antagonize Aunty, you hear?” he continues “Now I mean it, Scout, you antagonize Aunty and I’ll -- I’ll spank you.” Being that Jem and Scout are 4 years apart in age, its mature of him to think he can give Scout orders. On page 18 of To Kill a Mockingbird, as Jem and Dill were debating over the dare to touch the Radley house, Jem confirmed to Dill “Touch the house, that all?”. Then a few minutes later, on he went to touch the house. Usually when everyone is afraid of the same thing, and one person toughens up to face that fear, they're the bravest or most mature of the group.
