I assumed that there would be plenty about Jerry Rice, and there was, but on overwhelming amount of it was career statistics. Although that is important, since it is proof of his remarkable talent and success, I wanted to know more about the personal side of his life. To start my search, I needed to find a good amount of information in various sources: magazine articles, newspaper articles, internet sites, an interview, and books. Locating internet articles were the easiest tasks. Deciding which ones were worthwhile took some time, however. I read through dozens before narrowing it down to the ones I am actually using for my research. It was locating books that turned out to be the most difficult search for sources. …show more content…

Being that my subject was Jerry Rice, I knew that my obvious starting point could be Sports Illustrated. I was able to find the Sports Illustrated Vault and found the two issues that featured Jerry Rice on the cover. It was in these articles that I was able to find some valuable information, but again a lot of statistics. The first several sources I found were monographs in Southern New Hampshire University’s library. Once I found one book, I found many other similar to the topic in the same location. The scholarly articles were all found online from JSTOR and Academic Search Complete. The primary sources were somewhat harder to find. The “Rosie the Riveter” images and song were actual propaganda from the time. Primary sources such as these would be necessary because it is what the paper is based off of. Overall, it was relatively easy finding sources because almost every source had a bibliography and sources of its…

A "good" Google search is not the best idea, because there are sites that claim they know their stuff, but in actuality, their facts are either incorrect or made up. Their facts may in fact be correct, but for a different subject that their article is not even about. There are also many sites that can be changed and altered by anyone. There's so many websites that anyone can change because literally everyone has access to change the information to whatever they please, so you never know if the information is truly correct if anyone has permission to change the article. Which is why I look for credible sites with credible authors, companies, or even college sites that have articles for certain subjects. It can take me hours to find two or more credible sources, but that only depends on the topic I am writing…
