Jerry's Monologue
I stared at her not knowing what to think or do. Those words kept going through my head over and over again. He has no mother, he lied to me but why. I need to find him I need to see him. I asked her has she seen him she said no, her answers were so stupid. How can she not know where Jerry is. I walked away, I need to find him. A little boy came up with holes in his pants and in his shirt. His hair was messed up. He looks like he was playing in the mud and he was very nice. His name was James.

He asked me if I was looking for Jerry I said yes. He told me the last time he had seen Jerry he was in the field of flowers. I said thank you and ran as fast as I can. I was running with the wind blowing through my hair. I had found him and sat next to him in silence and I did not say one word. We sat there together just me and him for a while in silence and all we can hear is the trees blowing in the wind. After a while I asked him was he ok. He just looked at me and said do I look ok.

Then I thought of my fiance he was 20 and was very strong. The lady must have been able to read my face because she said, “Oh honey you need to get home before he leaves.” I hopped up from the porch swing we had been sitting on and ran down the street. When I arrived at my little yellow house with a blue porch swing I swung open the gate and raced to the door. Then I got to thinking what if I was too late?…

I remember the first time I saw Gene. I had just arrived in South Carolina after moving from New Jersey when my dad was offered a promotion. It was a rainy day, I spent most of it driving, trying to figure out my way around town. For lunch, I stopped at some sort of pub that’s been closed down for years now. When I walked in, it was completely empty except for one boy sitting at the counter all alone. I sat on a barstool, a few down from the boy and ordered a cheeseburger. Trying to remember which road I took to get there, I realized I had no idea how to get back home and the boy spoke.…

The person sitting next to me was around my age. We said hi to each other and actually became pretty close acquaintances. He told me his name was Jaden and that he was going to Florida, too. We didn’t talk the whole way to Florida but we talked for a good amount of time. Other than talking to Jaden, I listened to music and watched movies that I had downloaded the previous night on my phone. Jaden and I exchanged numbers so we could keep in touch. To this day we still talk from time to time.…
