Jersey Boys Musical Review
Jersey Boys
I watched this play on Thursday, April 18th at 8:00 PM at SHN Curran Theatre in San Francisco, California. Jersey Boys is about the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (Four Seasons) made extraordinary music under the genre of rock and pop. The story took place back in the 1950’s when the Four Seasons were just starting up. Location of the tale is in New Jersey. The purpose of Jersey boys is to tell a tale about the hardships that Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons went through to make their music and also other personal and emotional feelings that were endured by the band. I enjoyed the play because the story and music is very interesting, unique and entertaining. I have seen the play before in Las Vegas and I must say that the cast in Las Vegas was much better than the one I saw on Thursday night. The reason is because it went more in-depth with the story and also played every single hit that the band had made. Also, the singers in Las Vegas were much more professional and sounded better because the actor portraying Frankie Valli did not have such a high pitched voice as the one in Curran Theatre. My favorite composition from the band was Beggin because the tempo and beat was so fast-paced and it was impressive how the band had bright stage lights and fascinating dance moves. The music contained catchy rhythms and beats. Some notes would stretch out to make a nice vocal sound and some were just quick beats from the drums. The staging was very flashy because they had different stage lights with different colors for each part of the story. The costumes were very well suited. They actors wore fancy suits and some had a fancy top hot to match their costume. I thought the the whole play went fairly well and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. The music was pleasant and relaxing, the actors were spot on with no mistakes during the show and the crowd was very enthusiastic. The only part I had a slight

I chose to attend the play called "Present Laughter" on Friday, March 2nd, at Fort Hays State University. It was a very well put on play and the actors did an phenomenal job. All the actors were very professional and seemed to be very well prepared. They also did a good job on the set by making the play seem very realistic to all the audience members that attended the play. I wasn't that excited at first to go to this play because I have never been to a play in person…

As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. I also saw many people from different age groups; this gave me a feeling that the show would be entertaining enough to get people from all ages to come and see the show. The environment of the theatre was very formal, as there was a red and gold layout and it was also very clean.…

On October 18th I went and saw The Rocky Horror Show at the 6th Street Playhouse. The show was playing from Sep 20 to Oct 13 and then got extended to show on Oct. 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, and the 31st .The 6th street playhouse acting company did a marvelous job taping into their characters and expressing the emotions for every situation their character had. This play was based off of a movie called “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” about a very innocent and nonsexual couple who gets in a car wreck late at night while it’s raining. After this car wreck the couple goes to a house looking to borrow a phone and end up running into an alien transvestite mad scientist who has been building the perfect man to be his sex toy. With this man being born on their arrival the couple was in for a strange, magical, sexual and frightening experience. This large group that lived in the house seemed to love singing and wearing little clothing. In their time in this house they both lost their virginity, seen many deaths and in the end were able to escape alive as two of the aliens traveled back to their home planet “Transsexual Transylvania.”…

The homecoming musical performed this year, in the Shaw Center Auditorium, was Little Shop of Horrors. Being part of the crew, gave me the opportunity to see the play grow from rehearsing on an empty stage, to what was presented on opening night. However, I only had one opportunity to seat in the audience and see the entire play on Thursday, September 19th. Not knowing much about the play before that night, I was very surprised about everything that happened. Everyone I thought was important ended up dead, and I wasn’t expecting that. But I really liked it, because it had that surprise factor that made me jump off my seat a couple of times. Also, it was well structured, making it easy to understand what led to every situation and the characters gave live to every scene making the musical exciting and funny, which kept me interested until the end.…

The acting in this play was great. The actor I was looking most forward to was Brooke Shields. Honestly don’t think that she was that great. It could have just been the character of Morticia, but after it was all over I felt like she stood out the least. To be fare it could have just been that she was having a bad night though because when she was handing out autographs after the play she apologized for not doing well. The other star, Roger Rees, was pretty good. He definitely was not my favorite part of the show, but he did a good job playing Gomez. He was somewhat dry, but he had enough to keep him memorable. Adam Riegler was the young boy who played Pugsley. He did an outstanding job and unfortunately wasn’t a huge part of the show. I would have liked it if they had involved him in a few more scenes. The best part of the show was definitely Rachel Potter in the role of Wednesday. She blew everyone else out of the water in terms of her acting and singing. She was the true star of the show in my opinion. The way she acted really made the audience want things to work for her and the character Lucas. The actors Heide Blickenstaff and Adam Grupper did a good job in the role of Lucas’ parents. I feel that they did there job in being good character foils to Gomez and Morticia. Jesse Swenson was another actor that I thought did great. He played Wednesdays love interest Lucas. He did a fantastic job and was almost as good as Rachel Potter. Another role which I was disappointed in was Brad Oscar…

There were some things that I didn’t like about the play. One of the characters portrayed a rebellious girl who wore dark clothes and heavy makeup. She was the one who was hooking up with the professor and her friend. She kept blinking her eyes too much and moving her head to try to look as if she was being seductive. I understand that in order to portray a seductive character some of those gestures would work well. I think the actor over did it, and I found it distracting to watch her keep doing the robotic gestures even when…

The first piece Slavic Dance was up beat and exciting and it brought the audience into the show. I heard the piece and thought to myself ok the show has now begun. I think it is a good idea no matter what kind of performance it is, the start should be exciting and welcoming. The second piece, Three Preludes, was very clam and relaxing to the ears. At some points the song did get louder but sill had a nice legato feel throughout. La puerta del vino, was the third piece and was even quieter than the last, it sounded like a mystery piece. When a song is quiet and soft it make the audience listen harder because you do not want to miss it. The fourth piece was another duet and was up beat and woke everyone up from the short "nap" of quiet and softness form the last two-piece. The next piece Lisle Joyous L. 106 was similar to the last piece but wasn't as quick moving. Souvenirs was the second to last piece and was not only great but was fun to watch because the way it is written the performance are constantly getting their hands mixed up. The last piece was almost the same as the opening song but just a different section from it. I really like it because it was fast, fun, and very articulate. It had a lot a repeats or similar phrases so after a while you felt as if you know the song and could hum along with it. Not only is it good to open on a quick,…

The earthy colors of the backdrop and minimal costumes helped me enjoy the show, as I felt like it was a scene unfolding in front of me, not a practiced, scripted show. I really understood what the quote “One must suspend their disbelief to rise above reality” meant, because if I put aside the fact that the people on stage are actors, I lived vicariously through the actors and felt like I was actually inside the scene.…

On November 2, 2010 I attended the Broadway show “Billy Elliot the Musical” at the Durham Performing Arts Center. I must say this show was definitely one of the most emotional Broadway shows I have ever seen. I do not think there was a single dry eye throughout the whole show. The shows controversial plot about a young boy, who wants to dance and all the people in his town who won’t let him, makes for an exciting and heart racing show.…

All the dances in the concert were beautiful and I liked how they were not just about one specific dance. It was varied from hip hop to Latin, which are my two favorite types of dances. Which by the way the dance Victim of Love was beautiful and really entertaining. Erik Berumen and Monica Ortiz did a really good job choreographing this piece and also did an excellent job in the music choices. I loved how the dancers danced to all my favorite artists. Once I heard Romeo’s voice, from the Bachata music group Aventura, I was melting. I think I was the loudest person yelling of excitement. The costumes also in all the dances were really nice. Each one of the dances did a really good job in putting the costumes together because it fit their pieces. In Dreams of Reality I liked how they used a lot of popping in the Skrillex song and also it was really creative…

I liked how the play was acted. Being a theater enthusiast, I also commended the beautiful set onstage and how they made colorful costumes out of recycled materials, especially Doña Geronima’s. My favorite character was the humorous but kind Aling Pacquita. She was very funny and I find her walking on her knees tiresome but very effective in portraying her character as a dwarf. But they could have cut down on the miscellaneous actors, (except for the three heads). I found them disturbing sometimes. I didn’t like the use of sprayers to show rain. I guess I expected more.…
