Dave Berry is a hilarious and captivating writer. In his article he breaks down three characteristics of what a guy, not man, is. First and foremost, he explains how guys like neat stuff, as he puts it. For example, purchasing over qualified computers for miniscule assignments. While not using the computer for its upmost potential. Or how the space shuttle is still around for guy’s entertainment. Basically, the shuttle breaks down, they fix it, and get to send it back up to space all over again. For the hundredth time. He continues to explain the next and most well-known characteristic of men. One I should have guessed, guys like a really pointless challenge. For instance trying to see who could go the fastest…
Initial Public Offering is the first sale of stock by a private company to the public. The private company as an issuer entrusts an underwriter firm or a group of firms who help the issuer going public. IPOs are such a big deal because any investors who hold stock at initial offering price would make a significant capital gain when the company goes public. Numerous cases of new issues have proved that investors rise in value.…

JetBlue Airways airline was established by David Neeleman as a low-fare airline with high-quality customer service. His goal was to create an airline that was innovative for the current market. Their main focus was to provide service to areas that were underserved as well as to large cities with overpriced fares. He aimed to establish a strong brand that differentiated itself from its competitors by being a safe, reliable and low cost-airline. Neeleman managed to achieve this partially by hiring friendly, helpful, team-oriented, and customer-focused people. JetBlue is capable of offering low-cost flights due to their low operating costs. In order to achieve the cost advantage, they initially operated a single-type aircraft, the Airbus A320, as opposed to the more popular but costly Boeing 737. Not only was the airbus cheaper to maintain, but it was also more fuel-efficient. Additionally, they decided not to serve any meals on their planes as well as their pilots had to always be available, if needed, to help do the cleanup of the aircraft in order to minimize the time the aircraft was on the ground. They also pioneered the low-cost airline industry by displaying the lowest incidence of delayed, mishandled, or lost bags, and the third-lowest number of customer complaints. Since JetBlue is a customer-oriented company, its objective is to make the customer’s experience extraordinary by providing electronic ticketing and improved in-flight entertainment so that it can rapidly grow as an affordable airline.…

The estimation of cost of capital for JetBlue proved to be a difficult process. Considering the company has an unfavorable capital structure, due to the fact that they are acquiring a large number of aircrafts, simply taking the weights of debt and equity are not acceptable. In order to accurately judge the discount rate the multiples method is necessary. The comparison was to a leading low-fare airline company, Southwest. Another critical point is that taking the book values as compared to the market values is not an accurate depiction of what the market is willing to pay. There are several components that came into play with calculating the WACC. Necessary components included: weights of debt and equity, cost of debt and equity, and the tax rate.…
JetBlue Airways was created with the primary purpose to provide low cost American flights with “top-notch customer service” at budget prices. On the stormy day of February 14, 2007, their airline service was tested to the extreme. JetBlue initially serviced passengers between New York and Florida and then expanded rapidly. By the end of 2006, the airline had 500 flights operating in 50 different cities providing each passenger with (luxury) amenities such as TV, and leather seats (Laudon, pg. 72). This rapid expansion brought challenges the airline had not prepared for.…

Slavery was not just a physical bondage on these human beings, but it was also an emotional bondage. Love is one of the strongest emotions any human can have, and is unstoppable once someone feels that way, no matter whom or what they love. These slaves had loved ones who were separated from them in the trade markets that they would never see again. Some of the women slaves inevitably fell in love with their masters, which would cause trouble in the future. Female slaves were to be specifically sold in the slave markets for sex, and this ruined these women emotionally and physically. These peoples' lives were ruined in all sense of the word, and their lives were hopeless. Though love is inevitable, slavery has ruined families, women physically,…
In the realm of argumentation and debate many debaters negotiate their point of views in front of people all the time. Debates are basically distributive bargaining situations where debaters utilize selective presentation to try and win their arguments. This paper will define what a distributive bargaining situation is and secondly, this written discourse will define the technique of selective presentation. Furthermore, this paper will also discuss the definition of power, and the role power plays in negotiation. To elaborate on distributive bargaining situations and the use of selective presentation, I will use two arguments from a debate between James Carville, Jr., a liberal political commentator and professor at Tulane University, and S.E. Cupp, a republican political commentator, writer, and Ivey League socialite. The arguments originally specified by the republican commentator S.E. Cupp, stated “President Obama did not received the same microscope treatment that President Bush received from the media, congress, and the Senate;” and “raising taxes will not create more jobs, cutting taxes will create more jobs because businesses are job creators.” These two arguments will be used to show how selective presentation is applied in intellectual distributive bargaining situations.…
