Feeding of the 5000 : (6 : 30 – 44)
The apostles returned and met with Jesus, there was so many people coming and going, Jesus and the disciples didn’t have time to eat. Jesus said to them “Let us go of by ourselves to some place where we will be alone and you can rest for a while” so they went out to the boat.
Jesus got out the boat and saw a large crowd and his heart filled with pity because they were like sheep without a shepherd. He began to teach them but later his disciples said to him “it’s already very late, send the people away and let them go nearby farms and villages in order to buy themselves something to eat.”
Jesus answered “You yourselves give them something to eat.”
They asked him “Do you want us to go and spend 200 silver coins in order to feed them?” Jesus asked “How much bread have you got?”
They went to the boat and checked and told Jesus “Five loaves and also 2 fish”
Jesus told his disciples to divide the people into groups of hundred and fifty. Jesus took the 5 loaves and 2 fish – gave thanks to God and broke the loaves and gave it to his disciples to distribute and also the 2 fish and everyone was fed. At the end there was 12 full baskets left.

The baptism : (1 : 9 – 11)
Not long afterwards Jesus came from Nazareth in the province of Galilee; he was baptised by John in the Jordan (river Jordan). As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, he saw heaven opening and the spirit coming down in the image of a dove. And a voice from heaven said “You are my own dear son. I am pleased with you.”

You give them something to eat.” The disciples immediately responded, in question, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish.” Their justification for questioning Jesus was logical. If Lottie Nelson Dining hall were to send out their lunch menu email stating, “We are serving the entire campus with only two pizzas today” you and I would question the Lottie Dining crew as well. We would be leery of their claim since the laws of mathematics limit you and I. Our justification is innocent. As written, 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9…

For everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-comes not from the Father but from the world. Byrne, Malone and White from the ‘Here I Am’ scheme argue that the main aim for Catholic Religious Education is to give children ‘a systematic study…of the life and teachings of Jesus’. The lesson plan that I have come up with enables children to do this as it focuses on the account of ‘Jesus feeding the Five Thousand’. After reading the account to the class I would ask the children what they think the main teachings of the story are. Also, by reading the story aloud to the whole class we are able to see what type of man Jesus was. For instance we could say that was a very active man ‘…when they eventually got there a vast group of people were waiting to see Jesus’. In class we could discuss the significance of the word ‘eventually’ in this sentence and talk about what and where Jesus may have been travelling from and doing earlier in the day. However, although his life was demanding we are also able to see from this account that he always made time for people ‘…we wanted to send the crowd away but He insisted on talking to them’. The class could then go on to reflect about times when they have made time for people.…
