The website PBS.org says that Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924 to peanut farmer parents who lived in Plains, Georgia. Based on information from MillerCenter.org Jimmy's mother, Lillian Carter, was a nurse, but she quit after she found out she was pregnant. After she had her baby she became very curious about the world, so she crossed the lines of segregation and counseled African-American women about health care. Carter is one of the most active former presidents known in the history of America. The Carter Center is an organization Jimmy setup in order to wage peace across the world and to develop human rights issues. Along with setting up his own charities Carter has published many books, most about how to make peace in the middle east. He also won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Carter won the prize because he worked to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, advances in human rights and democracy. He also promoted social and economic development. Some people say Carter’s time in office was not well spent, but in reality he was working on important problems that are still happening
