Auntie An-mei- Is physically described as a “ short bent woman in seventies, heavy boson, thin and shapeless legs.” Anti mei also shares similar qualities with her sister Sugyan.
An- Mei also has a blunt nature. At a young age she told Jing that if she died a premature death that she will owe her family a debt. And her mourning time would be very short. An-mei also had a bad temper with children.
Jing-mei: She is a main character in the play,asked to take her mother's place at the Joy Luck Club. Jing Mei was taught at a young age to be an obedient child. She always followed her mom’s request even though if she didn't like what was being asked of her. For instance, Jing was asked to resign and marry a man she did not care for, but she did because that is what her mother wanted her too. Jing mei also seems to look down on herself because she always wants to live up to her mother's expectations.
Tyan-yu: Was Jing mei’s first husband. Tyan met Jing at a very young age and showed no interest in Jing. He was a very authoritative, demanding a mean figure. He always made special efforts to make Jing to cry. And Jing described him as “ someone i wanted to please and obey without
question”.
