John Bradley: A True Hero

Then in the last 5 chapters it talks about how when the three men got home and didn't want to be known as the heroes because they believed the real heroes are the marines that died on that island. Then there was posters in america to help raise money for the war effort and to help with the recovery after the war. Once these men were discharged they went back to their lives but they were not the same. After the gruesome fighting they had gotten PTSD and started drinking a lot of alcohol to try and forget what happened on the battlefield. John Bradley married Betty Van right after he was discharged. Ira and Rene also went back to their normal life different men then before they had left to fight in the war. In the only interview that John agreed to he said “People refer to us as heros. We certainly weren't heros. And i speak for the rest of the guys as well”.
