PAGES 56-57 1. Discuss the life of Dr. John Dewey as an educator. As a philosopher. -Dr. John Dewey as an educator is who favor progress towards better condition in the government and in the society. His achievements and career pattern in life might be one of the things that could support his philosophy. He had the highest degree so far in the academe, which is the doctor of philosophy. As philosopher, he is known to be a democratic educator. His philosophical beliefs has something to do with human’s experience, scientific method, ideas as plan of action, and man and nature as interdependent.
2. What are the outstanding educational concepts of pragmatic philosophy? The outstanding educational concept of pragmatic philosophy by John Dewey is the “logic and ethics of inquiry”. According to what I read, “Among the good habits of inquiry that Dewey thought we could teach, or at least reinforce, are curiosity, orderliness, alertness, and flexibility.” In my understanding, John Dewey imposes critical thinking for learning.
3. Explain and discuss the following educational philosophy of Dewey: a. education is life- in my understanding, education is as necessary as the man’s basic needs. If food is for our body, then education is also considered as the food for the brain. b. education is growth- every individual should not stop from learning, especially the teachers because they are the most common source of knowledge development. Besides, it’s human nature that after learning what he wants, most probably, he will aspire an additional room for learning. c. education is a social process- education plays a big part in training an individual to learn the how to deal with people.
