John Dillinger was one of the best ghost like get away bank robbers of his era if not the best. He had police looking for him on every corner throughout the day and still was notorious to them and will go down as the most successful bank robber in history. John Dillinger was born on June, 22nd 1904 in Indianapolis he was the youngest of two children. His father was John Wilson Dillinger and his mother was Mary Ellen Lancaster. Johns mother died while he was still at a very young age and was then raised by his older sister Audrey until his father remarried in 1912. Interviews with John Dillinger show that he resented his mother but learned to love her. It wasn’t long before Dillinger started his own gang and went around committing petty theft and small time pranks. Dillinger’s gang was called “the Dirty Dozen”. People around Dillinger as he was a kid told interviewers he was a generally cheerful and likeable kid who never got into any sort of mischief any more than the other boys in the neighborhood. At the age of 16 John Dillinger dropped out of high school. John Dillinger insisted he did not need school to be good at work he figured he had all the talent he ever needed right in his hands. John Dillinger Sr. wasn’t very proud of his sons judgment and thought maybe a change in venue would help change his sons mind and send him back off to high school. Both John Dillinger Junior and Senior moved to Mooresville, Indiana. Although John Dillinger Jr. didn’t change his mind he still believed there was no point of going back to high school. After a close encounter with the law Dillinger enlisted in the navy to get away from his father and more importantly the police. After basic training Dillinger was assigned to the U.S.S Utah that was sunken at pearl harbor
