John F. Kennedy's Argument Against Lucius Lamar

Lucius Lamar demonstrated political courage by John F. Kennedy’s standards, by constantly going against his constituents, no matter the consequence. After giving a eulogy in 1874 after the death of Charles Sumner, which applauded Sumner’s desire for unity, Lamar received negative feedback, since the South received the eulogy as a sign of betrayal. Another act of opposition against Lamar constituents, can be demonstrated in 1876, when Lamar agreed to the findings of an election commission, which in turn gave the presidency to Rutherford Hayes.
