North of the intersection, Brimley and McNicoll, resides a school called Agnes Macphail Public School. The school is named after Agnes Campbell Macphail, a Canadian politician who served as the first female Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons. The school, founded in 1981, stood for many of the same things that Macphail did, including her commitment to greatness. Macphail, the MP, made ripples in equality and Canadian politics with her penal reforms , while Macphail the PS is one of several Toronto Gold Eco Schools and strives to give students access to educational technology and a plethora of extracurricular activities. I’ve been told that the school has an extensive amount of clubs for a school its size which yield back to…

On March 7th, 1980, two high school freshman were found smoking in the bathroom at Piscataway High School in Middlesex County, NJ. The students were escorted to the vice principal Mr. Choplick’s office. The defendant, TLO, who was one of the students that were caught smoking denied the accusation. Mr. Choplick inspected TLO’s purse and found a box of cigarettes. Afterward removing the box of cigarettes, he saw a pack of rolling papers. Mr. Choplick suspected that a closer examination of the purse may yield evidence of drug use and that a thorough inspection would be needed. After a thorough search, he found a small amount of marijuana, a pipe, a number of empty plastic bags, a large amount one dollar bills, an index card with a list of who…
Caseworker Brittany Martinez completed a face to face visit with Chardonnay Hunnicutt at John Horn High School located in Mesquite, Texas. I sat with Chardonnay and Caseworker Erica Elliott in the Assistant Principal’s office. Chardonnay was wearing a purple shirt with blue jeans. Chardonnay’s hair’s appeared to be worn in an Afro style, she stated she had taken her braids out the night before. I asked Chardonnay how school was going. Chardonnay stated that her grades were good, but in one of her classes, she was failing until she turned in a missing assignment. I asked Chardonnay if she had gotten any trouble lately. Chardonnay stated she couldn’t remember when she got in trouble, but she did remember that she was upset about something. Chardonnay…
Towson University was once known as the Maryland State Normal School for the instruction of teachers in 1864. Two years after being created in 1864 the school opened its doors with McFadden Alexander Newell being its president. Newell had goals to establish model schools for teachers to practice their skills and see first-hand how what they have learned worked on elementary students. Unfortunately, these practice schools were often across town because of space limitations.…

Introduction: When it is time to attend school, how will you choose between public and private schools? While you will be attending yourself or sending your children to school your ultimate goal is to find a school that will meet you or your child’s needs. Having had first-hand experience with both schools, it allowed me to compare differences of each school system.…
For my entire life of schooling, both my parents and I would agree that I constantly complained about the educational systems in which I was enrolled. But when I actually take the time to think about everything I have been through, I realize that I have indeed had an excellent education. My schooling was full of opportunities and experiences, all of which contributed to the person I am today; adequate education has been an indispensable facet of my being. Sadly, not everyone has had this same privilege. And now as a college student, I am becoming even more aware of this sad fact. Looking around me in such a diverse city as Chicago, I find myself being more and more grateful. When I read Jonathan Kozol's Fremont High School, this these feelings were even more reassured.…

Ahmed-Ullah, facing a budget deficit of one billion dollars, the CPS has made the decision of closing just under fifty elementary schools and one high school. With these closings the CPS estimates they will save between $500,000 and $800,000 from each school per year (Guarino, 2013, 1). Despite the savings in money and decrease in deficit, parents are infuriated. They fear the worst for their kids and believe they will be susceptible to gang violence by going to a new, further away school. Nikkia Pierce, a mother of two relocated children, said, “I’ll home-school both of my children before they go to Jensen (designated relocated school), it’s sad that they really don’t care about these kids” (Ahmed-Ullah. 3). Students of closing schools aren’t taking well to the new plans of the CPS either and are completely disregarding what they say. Another article After closings, kids shun schools picked by CPS by Noreen S. Ahmed-Ullah of the Chicago Tribune states, “Almost half the youngsters most affected by Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s school shutdowns did not enroll this fall in the new schools where officials planned for them to go, records from Chicago Public Schools show.” The new schools the children are designated to go to are referred to as “welcoming schools.” Hundreds of millions of dollars were put into renovations and upgrades for these welcoming schools in order to take…
