The Ponticas’ resided in an apartment complex owned by KMS Investments. On September 8th, 1978, a Stephanie Ponticas called upon the apartment resident manger to fix an appliance problem—a Dennis Graffice. Graffice noticed that Ms. Ponticas was alone and noted her husband was away on business, and on September 10th, entered into the property and violently raped and assaulted Ms. Ponticas. Graffice was later apprehended and convicted of his crime. The Plaintiff then looked towards the residing hiring body, to quell the questions of faulty and negligent hiring practices.…
I chose the landmark case of Korematsu v. United States for this research paper. Back on December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked US Naval forces in Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii. The next day the US declared war on Japan and everyone was in a panic wondering what would happen next. The United States joined World War II and all Japanese and Japanese-Americans were being rounded up and put into camps, because the US government was afraid that there could spies or that the people with a Japanese heritage could turn against America. Executive Order 9066 was put into place by President Roosevelt and this order made it possible to put anyone from full Japanese to even 1/16th into special facilities where they were seclude from the general population. Was the Executive Order unconstitutional or not? Fred Korematsu was a native born citizen of the US, but was of Japanese heritage and he was convicted on September 8, 1942 of being in a place where Japanese weren’t allowed. Korematsu then brought forth a petition to take away his conviction due to government misconduct. Eventually, the case reached the Supreme Court and in a 6-3 vote they sided with the government, because they said that the potential spying and espionage was more important than Korematsu’s Constitutional rights. From my research I have concluded that even though Korematsu got his case overturned in 1984 because of untruthful information it was still unfair that it is still deemed Constitutional that there were internment camps for Japanese-Americans. Amendments 1, 4, 5, 8, 13, 14, and 15 of the United States Constitution were all violated and I will explain why in this paper.…

Before Regan took office in 1981, the state of the United States economy was in dismal shape. The high unemployment of mid 1970’s seemed to be on the way down, but because of an unnaturally low Federal Reserve’s interest rate, inflation was out of control. By the time Reagan got into office, the unemployment rate in the country had increased from a low of 5.8% to 7.6% in 1981. Although the country was experiencing an increasing unemployment rate, the inflation rate was skyrocketing above 14% for multiple months in 1980. The Federal Reserve had to increase interest rates in order to control the value of the dollar, at the cost of millions of jobs. Although the inflation rate decreased from an average of 13.58% in 1980 to 3.22% in 1983, the unemployment rate rose from the higher interest rate from 7.1% in 1980 to 9.7% in 1982. This huge increase in the amount of unemployed naturally caused a sharp decline in Reagan’s approval ratings. In 1984, Reagan’s election year, the economy began crawling back. Unemployment dropped from 9.7% in 1982 to 7.5% in 1984 and American’s began to believe in Reagan’s ability to help the economy thrive. Reagan’s economic success is credited to the tax cuts he enacted. During the 1970’s the federal tax rate for wealthy making over $200,000 a year was at or over 70% for the entire decade. Reagan’s cuts lowered the amount of taxable income from 70% (for the highest earners) to 50% in 1982. This increase in money allowed the wealthy to invest more and hire more workers, leading to the recovery that began in 1984.…
While, yes he did defy the government, the government was acting in a way that was discriminatory against an innocent group of people and the arrest of Fred Korematsu was unwarranted. The Supreme Court’s actions and declaration that the internment of the Japanese-Americans was “constitutional” caused an extreme injustice among the people that it harmed. The fact that he was sent to a concentration camp purely on his race alone was unconstitutional and Justice Owen Roberts that if this assumption is correct “I need hardly labor the conclusion that Constitutional rights have been violated.” It was, and is, clear that any such orders go against the very premise that the United States of America is built…
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. This year is the 51th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy assassination in Dallas Texas. It is estimated that 85% of the American Public do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald did it as a lone gunman. There have been two official government investigations with two different sets of conclusions.…
In my opinion, I though the film was powerful and overwhelming at times. As, the public figures and political activists gave a lot of information. Analyzing the film, you see how America’s complex prison system affects people of color. It is shocking. Because despite living in a country that gives liberty to all…
September 11th, 2001 marked a tragic time of loss and grief in U.S. history. The terrorist attack that occurred in New York left many families and loved ones in shock and in despair. Two planes crashed into the side of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center causing a fire and evacuation of the workers inside. Many died by jumping to their deaths, falling debris, or rescuing those trapped in the buildings. A memorial and museum was created to honor the lives lost on 9/11. The design, location, purpose should be taken into consideration when building a monument.…
According to some, John Lennon's assassination was considered just as devastating as the deaths of Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy (Feeney, Nolan). John Lennon was a member of the very popular and impactful band, the Beatles. Lennon was considered the intellectual and outspoken Beatle and this resulted in a lot of hate from some people (History.com). The assassination of John Lennon was unjust because he was an innocent musician who was killed by a mentally unstable man; however some believe that because of his outspoken personality he deserved the animosity he received (History.com).…
When you think of influential presidents you think Abraham Lincoln or Bill Clinton? When someone mentions influential presidents to me, I think of Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon. They were both elected for two terms, but each of them was seen either in a positive light or a negative light. On television, Nixon said, “I am not a crook,” but that is what he is known for even today. Although, Reagan was the oldest president elected into office, in my opinion; he was the most prominent political figure serving his eight full years as President of the United States. We will look at Richard Nixon’s and Ronald Reagan’s life before presidency, their leadership qualities, and their office accomplishments.…
The powerful emotions triggered through watching this film can be acknowledged without question. What I found the most interesting was the use of real news footage from that time period that aired on major news networks, swaying people’s opinions about our justification for being in Vietnam. Being able to view that gave me a 1st hand look into soldiers’ opinions of the war as well as protests and how they differed then. The actors reading the leaders with pure emotion and feeling in order to accurately portray how much these soldiers put into these letters was remarkable because I felt as though I was experiencing that time period as if it were real and the soldiers were scrambling to write as I watched on. The stories they depicted throughout their words definitely provided for a flurry of reactions. I wanted to be happy for those men honored for combat, living through the horrors of hell, and seeing the relief on their faces when being honorably discharged and sent home. I was equally and oppositely somber, however, for those men’s lives stolen in combat, for those permanently crippled and bitter, to hear of the unspeakable horrors awaiting prisoners of war, as well as letters from optimistic soldiers killed in action shortly after. Another thing I found effectively executed by this film was the specific numbers given. They showed the variation in the number of soldiers deployed to Vietnam over the course of the war, as well as the rising KIA numbers and wounded in combat. A gruesome part of this war as well was the thick jungle that the soldiers had to navigate through blindly until ambushed by the Vietcong, and I thought the film did an excellent job of revealing that to the public. One of the most powerful moments of the film was when a soldier, grieving over his superior officer exclaimed that “he’ll be given a silver star, and somehow that is supposed to suffice for his life being…

John Lennon was born into a middle class household to his parent Julia and Alfred Lennon. As a child he grew up with his parents, three sisters, and two brothers, but at the age of four his mother and father split. John lived with his Aunt Mimi for the majority of his life after his parents divorced. She raised him through his childhood and took care of him through the many hard times they faced. On July 15, 1958, John’s mother’s life was tragically taken when a speeding car hit her (Andrew par. 3). This event changed John and forced John to lose his innocence.…
JFK lived an extraordinary, however short and “unfinished life.” In Robert Dalek’s preface he contends that there have been countless biographies and documents, and articles on the 33rd president, so why should he add another one to the list? New research allowed him to dig deeper into the lives of the Kennedy’s and give a more whole story of the life of John F. Kennedy. Dalek thoroughly goes through Kennedy’s early years, giving extensive background on the lives of his grandparents and parents. Joe Kennedy, Jack’s father, proves to be a formidable figure throughout Jack’s life and Dalek provides the reasoning for his ambition in the first chapter of the book. Dalek discusses his school and college years, his extensive traveling, concern for international relations and the book he wrote all before he graduated college. Dalek also goes into the difficulties and hardships that Kennedy endured throughout his early years. The overshadowing and competition with his older brother Joe until his untimely death in WWII in an aircraft crash was one of the most difficult times of Jack’s life. His extreme illnesses throughout his life, ranging from Addison’s disease, Osteoporosis, and numerous other ailments that clouded his rise to political celebrity. Though obstacles plagued Jack’s early years, he was able to build up a resume, through hard work and a good name, that would help get him elected as a public servant in years to come.…
