The Libyan Revolution was one of the most brutal and violent revolutions of all time due to thousands of angry citizens that went against the government and that way both sides lost people. Without the ideas of John Locke this revolution might never have happened. John Locke created many ideas about government and the most important in connection with the libyan revolution is that the people were allowed to overthrow the government after his reasoning as it treated them bad. John Locke was an enlightenment thinker who lived from 1634 to 1704, during this time his ideas about government, life, liberty and property were very new and that is the reason why some of them were seen as extreme ideas. The enlightenment was a time during which many thinkers and scientist created ideas on all aspects of society which were an extremely important fundament for society as we know it today in the modern world. John Locke had three main ideas that were denied for the people of Libya before the revolution and still are as it is an ongoing conflict. During Gaddafi’s rule however, there was not much freedom for the people of Libya. An example are again the protests in 2011 when the people were protesting due to their limited freedom. People went on the street to tell everybody their opinion but when they did so they were massacred by Gaddafi’s men. This event was classified as a war crime and the freedom that was taken from the people was freedom of speech which is also important for a society to work otherwise there is unhappiness which in this case led to the protest as things would be better if there were a different government. After many losses and a long time, the people of libya overthrew the violent era by killing Gaddafi. One of Locke’s biggest ideas was that the people have to go against the government if they feel violated by it. When Gaddafi fled Tripoli after it’s fall, his big convoy of several cars was attacked by nato forces, which didn’t know that Muammar Gaddafi was sitting in one of the cars.
